I have a snorkel sitting in my garage ready to be installed but im really not 100% on if i want to install it or do this mod istead. Are there any issues with rain? I live in western Washington which has a lot of rain and I'm worried about it sucking water in. And also how's the noise in the cab?

    Noise does increase *slightly*

As far as water, I live at the base of the Sierra Nevada's, stones throw to Lake Tahoe. No issues with water whatsoever. The intake itself is about an inch above the base of the cowl which has its own drains, then inside the airbox there is another small drain. I get crazy downpours and standing snow all over the cowl.

This is a very interesting setup. Toyota engineers should keep their eye on tacomaworld! Anyone have a supercharger with this setup?

They probably do and viciously shaking their head and pulling hair… million dollars in research and years in development vs one guy with sawzall…

Not that I know of yet, I keep thinking about a supercharger, then I just can't justify the price.

About to do this, but run a tube from the stock outside location up into the cowl from the outside. Got a big compressor in the engine bay, and think I'm too lazy to move it else where

Part of me needs to move the compressor out of the engine bay though, since it starts out too hot in the first place on hot days. We will see what I do once I get around to it

How big of a compressor? I used the flex line and ran it under mine. I did remove it for install though. No escaping that, ha.

I'm supercharged and thinking about trying this, but would like some confirmation of sorts.

I'm no fluid engineer but did some quick looking around at air flow for the 3.5L. Used the following in the calc: 77 Deg ambient air temp with a 77 degree air charge (it'll obliviously be much higher), 14.7 Atmosphere pressure, VE of 95% and 8PSI of boost at 6500 RPM. The theoretical CFM used would be 590cfm.

A 3" ID tube 3 foot long with an 0 PSI at the inlet has a flow rate of about 3240 CFM. This is for a straight shot, no 90 bends or corrugated tube. Seems like there would be enough flow.

I was trying to work with some worst case scenario numbers. At some point I'll probably data log the MAF sensor to get some true flow numbers.

I may be way off here, and I welcome being taken to school on this.

Got pics of the tube install? Very curious to see what tube you used and how you mounted it through the cowl

Not to derail this thread because I am interested in the cowl mod, but @Buttskevin21 how did you mount this air compressor there? have any other pictures?
