say a 2nd gen Tacoma oil change is a 3 out of 10 on a level of difficulty and mess.

    what is a 3 gen's level?

    4.

It's not actually much harder. Just a little less convenient. Having to remove a skid plate to then mess with the cartridge filter thing is dumb.

Question, the oil filter seems to be above the top of oil pan, ....so,,can you change the filter half way through the oil change life cycle without draining the oil pan??

yes, you can change the filter in any time. It will not siphon from the oil pan.

Went to do an oil change on the truck. Turns out my local dealer but some sweet torque on the filter cap. Luckily my local o Reilly’s had a replacement in stock and it’s metal not plastic. Gotta love breaking all 3 fins on each side just to get the dang thing off. I had to use my short (15”) breaker bar to get it to break loose.

Just did another oil change today. Not sure of this would help.
Here’s the part number for the metal cartridge housing.
Another reason I been declining the free oil changes that the couple of dealers around me has been offering…

I'm coming up on my 60k service, I've looked online but I'm having trouble figuring out if when I do the auto trans fluid change should I also change the filter, if not when should the filter be replaced?

Trying to figure out how much gear oil I actually need to by to changed my front and rear diffs. most suggest 6 quarts for both in general however I see this posted as the capacity. There is a range of more than a quart for the rear.
    • Front - 1.6 qts; Rear - 3.1-4.2 qts (varies with model)
I have a 2020 SR5 4x4. Why does it vary by model? Is the TRD OR a larger rear Diff than others versions or does it vary by model year?
I'd need as little as 4.7qts or 5.8qts total going by I found so far.

Putting together my order for replacing my transfer case oil and Lithia Toyota says the gaskets in my cart, 90430-A0003, are not compatible with my 2021 OR. The site says that the washers were compatible up until 2020 models. Just a typo on their part?
