I agree with you it sounds more complicated than it is. Most of the time is spent waiting for the trans to get to temp. A decent fluid pump you can get for $5 comes in very hand. I did find on the first page of the tech instructions that the truck needs to be +/- 1 degreeimage.jpg

I'm changing mine this week at 6K miles. I'll let the dealer change it at 10 and 20K and I'll do it now and at 15K. I don't want to wait 10,000 miles for the first change. Ordered Mobil 1 0W- 20, the oil filter and oil filter wrench on Amazon. Really reasonable prices and the filter is OEM. It's my truck so I'll change the oil as I see fit.

Hey guys, one more question about checking the tranny fluid levels. Did you replace the washers or just reuse the old ones? I've ordered new ones so I can change them out if I have too, but my truck only has 1000 miles on it, so if I can keep them I will. If this is a dumb question...I was just testing you.

I replaced them but the fill plug is a rubber ring and if it's not abused you could probably use it again. The bottom is a gasket type so I would say be safe replace. Though I changed my diff fluids and reused the crush gaskets with no issues.

I've had mine off-on 3 times without new washers; no problem.

If I remember right, all but the fill plug are "non-reusable" parts per the Toyota FSM. So they should be replaced but I'm sure plenty reuse without an issue. The risk is just having to start all over again if an old gasket leaks. Up to you if saving money is worth the risk.

Tip though, I never pay for these things. Ask your dealer, buy some fluids and filters from them and I bet they will include them for free.

Ok, so I finally got around to checking my transmission fluid and it was quite simple. Other than a small "heat shield" induced cut everything went well. My transmission was about 1/2 quart low (I would be more exact, but I decided to squirt some on the ground and get some in my clothing just for fun) Nothing burst into flames and the truck runs fine.

Ive actually spoken with URD and haven't come to a consensus yet on whats going on. Gadget said that it most likely is a throttle control issue with the throttle by wire system. I agree with him, but I think that the reason there is a glitch in the system has to do with the way our engines are designed to switch between atkinson and otto cycles. I think that when we go to shift and have been running otto cycle at high rpm and the rpm go to drop that its temporarily super-lean and so the rpms hang there for a moment. Reason being, I've noticed that on my truck it tends to run MUCH better as far as the rpm hang is concerned when its hot as shit outside and the motor is nice and hot too which would tend to hint at a lean condition somewhere. Thats just my thinking though

How do I tell which rear diff I have? I plan on swapping out the factory fluid with redline since I found the level to be low. 2016 Off-road AT V6

I'm pretty sure you have the 8.8 because TRD OR has the locking diff. Someone else will be along soon to correct me if I'm wrong. :D

That sounds correct. What is the code for that diff so I know how much fluid it takes?

    Thanks
