while parking pawl could fail.. that's not a common thing. don't even try to pretend it is. and nothing in 1st is going to roll away on a slight hill.. and definitely not in someone's garage.

Nope, never. Maybe one day I'll see it if mine ever fails.

If it happens once and kills someone, shouldn't that be enough times to apply the brake when parked. Hell, just the damage to your vehicle or your pride should be enough. We all make choices. I am fine with mine.

in the history of the automobile a vehicle has never broken a parking pawl or overcome compression while in gear on level ground and somehow started moving and killed someone.

That's a good question. And one that I don't have interest in contributing an answer too... my choice is to use my park brake... that's my choice. You are more than welcome to make yours. :hattip:

Oh you are right... it was a statement... my bad...

You're right... no one has ever died from a vehicle rolling away while in park. Never in automobile history....

Safe Practice is what I said. This thread posed a question, for a problem, that myself and others have experienced.
Not for the peanut gallery to start a pissing contest. If you can contribute to the thread please do. Otherwise take your argument elsewhere.
    Thanks.

Your question was answered in like the first reply to this thread and the many others already created on this topic. There's always going to be cross talk in threads...no where did it become a pissing contest unless you're the one trying to take a piss.

Pretty sure from a safety standpoint applying the parking brake is expected when parking in a public place. I imagine there is something in the drivers Ed handbook.

If your vehicle is hit by another vehicle the parking brake will help stop your vehicle go rolling down the road and run someone over.

If you don't use wheel chocks on your truck every time you park it you're basically a murderer.

Had that for the first time on my 19. Parked it outside at work, went on a business trip for 3 days. Temp was in the high 90's and humid.

Came back from the trip, started engine, released the hand brake, put in 1st gear, stalled it. Fired up again, double checked the brake handle, stalled again.

Went out checked all the way around just to make sure nothing was blocking the tires.

Started the 3rd time, really give it some gas then let go the clutch, bounced couple times finally broke loose the shoes from the drums.
