After realizing that it happened after washing the truck, I drive the around the block to get rid of any residual water on the brake components.

@Mlong17470 What Mike said… this happens to my 2020 after washing. Well, not anymore because I drive it around the block after washing.

I personally always use my hand brake. Better habbit to use it, than making a habbit of not using it, IMO.

I use my parking brake EVERY time I park, regardless of the location or parking condition. It’s called a parking brake for a reason. OP, you’re doing the right thing by using it. Anyone that says otherwise is just being a crank and looking to start an argument.

I parked on an incline with the parking brake on and guess the water got stuck in the drum. And I did back up and eventually heard a loud ‘thunk’ and everything was ok.

Something is getting into the drum and preventing the internal spring from retracting the pads from the drum. Or the spring c/b shot.
Had this happen when an axle seal was leaking fluid into the drum and screwed up the spring.
    Salty regions don't help, either.
    Might be more than one.

My truck did it with 9 miles on the clock and 100 miles (both times were in the morning after washing the previous evening). I removed the drum and everything was lubricated and in perfect condition. It did it once more again in the morning after washing the night before. I now drive around the block after washing and have never had it happen 3 years since.

I grew up where manual gearboxes out numbered autos 10to1 so using the handbrake is the norm.

The 4th gen forum won’t be having this problem… they’ll be complaining about losing the parking brake lever and the car doing it automatically… dummy proof
