you dont mind it revving to 2500 in first gear?? or did it get more smoother shifting over time?

One thing to keep in mind when comparing the button's function is that none of the previous versions cited are on engines that have Atkinson cycle capability. I think based on my experience that the ECT button does three things:

    1. Disables 6th gear. Makes sense as you aren't supposed to tow in overdrive.
    2. Changes throttle response...this cannot be argued...it does this. If you are arguing that it does not, you have not driven a 2016 with and without the ECT engaged. There is a definite lag in the first 1/2 to 1" of throttle that is not there when ECT is engaged.
    3. I THINK that it may disable the Atkinson cycle timing. The reason I think this is that if you are driving at or below about 2000 RPMs on relatively level ground, and engage the ECT, the RPMs of the engine will change (increase) without any change to the position of the throttle. I guess it could be just the throttle map changing where the engine runs at that throttle setting, but to me it would make sense to disable the Atkinson cycle at lower RPMs under ECT since it is designed to produce better MPG, but not necessarily better power at lower RPM.

Not trying to argue with you, but go drive a 2016 AT tacoma and try for yourself what ECT on/off does. The higher shift points is not the only thing that has been changed. the throttle response is significantly different.
