I just attempted to drain my engine coolant out of the driver's side pepcock, removed about 1.25 gallons, and running the engine didn't seem to get any more out. I see that there's an engine block drain cock plug according to the 3rd gen service manual, but I can find next to no information about this on the interwebs, nor can I find this on my engine. Can anyone link me to some more information?

Just curious why you were draining the coolant already since the first change is at 100K?

Good luck. I changed mine last week, but never found the petcock on the driver's side and gave up looking, so I just drained from the passenger side and the drain on the radiator. Fluid looked brand new. I'm at 65K miles.

Thanks for the info. Where on the passenger side did you drain? How much fluid were you able to get out?

The drain on the block is effective, but I tend to tell people to leave it alone, they don't break often, but its not something that typically needs to be touched, and risk of error is higher than just draining the radiator.

I typically only use the drain cock on the block if I'm doing major engine work, or if the coolant is contaminated.

    What's the total coolant capacity?

ETA: 11.1 QT. Damn I can't believe the radiator only holds 5 qts.

Can you lend any picture guidance to its location? Thanks!

This thread has the basic idea of where it is. You can access it without taking off the wheel or anything. Just remove some of the clips for the splash guard and shine a light in there and you should see it. I got out about 1.75 gallons draining there and the drain on the radiator.
