@4runnerToTacoma it's not the injector cleaning cycle. If I understand correctly, that sound is more of a clicking.??
I'll try to get a clip of it. This sound almost sounds like a grinding bearing. I'm almost thinking about pulling the oil pan and checking the crank bearings for play or to see if I've actually spun one.

I have a 2023 DCLB sport at 16000km and when accelerating up hills it sounds like there's crickets chirping, dealer said couldn't replicate.Only lasts for a few seconds.Would this be the same engine pinging?

This soumds more like the engine lugging. The taco v6 makes.little.power at 1000 rpm..
    .
Accellerating 4,500+ lbs up a hill requires power only available from this engine at the higher rpm range...

So the uphill pinging sound wasn't normal? My 2021 DCLB SR5 has had the uphill acceleration rattle sound from almost brand new I think. You have to hit the perfect RPM at exactly the right time to hear it. Very rare here. I did hear today what sounded like a momentary squeak but it might have been just a loud bird. Couldn't tell

These engines are loud. They make bunch of weird noises, unlike any other vehicle I have owned or driven. If we are all saying the same thing, it must be the same issue. Mine rattles and chirps and whirrrs all the time going up hills or when accelerating. It sounds like a diesel most days. I've used 93 and it didn't make a difference. I'm honestly glad to hear others say they have the same sounds because I was literally thinking to myself, what have i just gotten myself into. (3 months ownership here)

It really does sound like a diesel knock. I almost backed out of a trade into an F150 today because I can't seem to give the Tacoma up. Unfortunately I've become attached to my truck somehow. However I think between having the same payload capacity that my Mazda Cx5 has, the uncomfortable seats, and this noise apparently getting more prevalent, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the F150.

I might as well ask, but has anyone had a "clank" noise when accelerating uphill in 1st, or coasting downhill in 1st, just before coming to a stop? it is definitely a sound that a shifting gear would make? (if that makes any sense) Maybe going from 2md to 1st? Almost like tapping two wrenches together. Mine does it as I let off the accelerator right before i come to a stop. A very prevalent gear shifting noise. It isn't constant, usually only happens after I have been parked am starting a new drive.

Mines been knocking like crazy lately, no matter if I run premium gas or not. I took a long road trip a few months back and it happened while merging onto the interstate, I had to accelerate pretty hard at the same time to avoid an accident. My engine has been noticeably louder at every RPM ever since. But of course the dealer says “it’s normal” for it to sound like a can of marbles. Could be cam/lifter noise or timing chain noise, I’m speculating at this point. It’s suspicious to me though that this started with knocking under load.

I don't know what the hell is wrong with these trucks. I had a 20 year old 4Runner from new that never made one sound in all 20 years, and I sold it for this loud ass rattling underpowered truck. Seriously, we got duped. Mine still makes the gear changing "clank" noise and yet I'm told it's normal. I turn to go up a hill in second and it shifts to fourth and slows down 50%. Biggest effing blunder in truck history not putting the 4.0 v6 in the 3rd gen.
