Mileage is the same for me. Maybe a slight loss.

It has been way colder and windy since i loaded the tune, so my mpg numbers have more factors than the tune. My mileage traveling home last night was 20mpg by the dash, in 5 o clock traffic.

I'm not saying the tune is perfect, but 2.0 is coming soon and has a lot of changes to it.

Does the truck still have a stumble under load? Yes.

Is it way better than before? Yes.

Did running 91 octane help? Sort of

Would i buy ovtune again? Yes.

I was considering trading my truck in. I gave it a shot and was impressed. Now with 2.0 coming, if he fixes rev hang and dfco, I'll be super happy.

I am considering trading mine in as well because of the issues. So your feedback is really important to me. Thank you.
What do you mean by rev hang and dfco?

Oh dear, if i tell you what rev hang and dfco are, you will notice it and hate me for it.

You may be better left in the dark on this one.

These trucks have a pretty complicated tune/ECU but the OV tune and work Matt has put into this truck have made a big difference. I've had all 3 gens and while the 3rd gen has had its quirks, it has been my favorite. (I do miss that 97 on those tight spots)

When I first got my 19 I was really disappointed in the way it ran, especially the skipping. Started using premium gas and that helped, then installed k&n panel air filter, better, just last week installed Borla cat back, now as smooth as glass and runs so much better. Now it can breathe.

I can guess what Rev Hang is, because I’ve had that happen with this truck. Almost like too much gas was dumped and it’s got to burn through it before the RPMs will come back down.
I have no idea what dfco is.

Deceleration fuel cut off... or something to that effect.

Since you have a manual it'll be obvious. In any gear take your foot off of the gas completely. When the rpms drop to about 1500 you'll feel a lurch. That's the truck beginning to pump gas to the engine again.

DFCO is supposed to improve gas mileage by completely cutting the fuel and letting the momentum of the truck push the engine and all of the accessories.

i also nearly traded mine, that was about 3 years ago right before OV showed up and started producing alpha files for the MT trucks. as OV has evolved, and it has a lot and will continue to, I've been figuring what other stuff helps this motor run smooth & strong. the main thing aside from octane is a high flowing exhaust. not an off-the-shelf cat back, but a custom solution. that may be something for later, but if you do invest in OVT and get it setup right you'll probably be good with it. the big 2.0 drop is coming and that's what we've all been waiting for.

by the way, jokes aside, if your ECU version is completed & available from OV, you can get the beta version from here now if you have the flash kit: https://www.ovtuned.com/pages/2-0-public

Thank you. Very likely to buy OVTune. Going to think about it a bit longer and see if the dealer has any TSB info.

even if you are planning for OV , be sure to get your TSBs up to date. it's best to do that before OV.

I also had the missing/hesitation in my '18 Sport, especially when the engine was not fully up to temp. It's just the crappy tune that Toyota thought was acceptable, though they have tried several iterations and still never solved it. I had my dealer update my software to the latest, and it was better, but still unacceptable for me. I finally bit the bullet and bought the OV tune - made a huge difference and my mileage significantly improved (I'm just running the base 87 tune). I will say that after 7K miles, some of the hesitation appears to have come back, but it is still significantly better than it was with the updated factory tune. I also can't wait for the 2.0 tune. Mat continues to discover weirdness that is in the factory tune.
