I recently moved and I live alongside a highway extension that was not there when my truck was manufactured. So I want to update my maps on the Entune system in the hopes that the highway extension was added in the later release. I know there are sd cards for sale from Toyota that have the updated maps. (I currently have OE183 and the latest is OE184) My question is I also found the toyota.garmin website where you can buy an off the shelf sd card and upload the recent maps onto the sd card to update your Entune system. Reading the FAQs I saw that this website only works on Toyota vehicles with Garmin navigation. So how do I tell if the Tacoma has a garmin navigation and has anyone used this technique with any success?

Same boat...I was out 364 last week, noticed I was flying thru a field. Thought my antenna had pooped the bed. Got to my destination and I was spot on where I was trying to go....then it occurred to me...new highway...2015 at best map info. Been looking for info on update since.

There's a road by my house that's been there for 10+ years that doesn't show up on the map.

I hope you solve it, and can do so for free.

    That would be a breakthrough.

Do you live in STL? Because MO-364 is the exact highway I'm talking about. moved out there and it's a pain trying to get places I don't know because it thinks I live in the middle of a field.

I had a feelin' that was the one you were talking about. I was out there for a CPR/BSL course....good thing my better half decided to get directions on her phone too!

I would use your smart phone (assuming you have one), and wait a year or so before dropping dime to get a new map....it's growing so fast out there.

The Toyota sd cards come out every October so if I can't get this website to work then I'll wait till October to get OE185. Supposedly OE184 has the 364 extension but I'd rather spend $7 on a sd card than $100 for a Toyota badged sd card.

So far, no one has been able to successfully(to my knowledge) clone one of the map microSD cards.. there's a thread on here somewhere where several people tried. it seems that the map update is tied to the OEM cards somehow. You can usually find the updated cards on ebay far cheaper than the dealer though.

I'm just trying to figure out why the official Toyota website would have a link to update our sd cards but not adequately list the pre-requisites for successful operation. You'd think they would list compatible units or something but it just says toyota vehicles with garmin navigation.

    OEM navigation is crap.

    Not everywhere has cell service.

A portable GPS is the better choice. Updates free, always works when the sky is visible.

I'm not going to use my cell phone or a portable gps. I rather like the Entune navigation,

I like the entune system myself. I know a few guys that live about an hour from me tried to get them done the free way. Maybe I will give it a go too since I'm in the IT sector. If any of it is encrypted or digitally signed in any way, then it wouldn't be easy to crack it.

I never had a single issue with entune gps. Always got me where I needed to go.

Google maps will download the data for when there is no cell signal. I find Google to be the best at getting me somewhere and updating the route as conditions change. I use the Entune along side of Google and find it useful to some degree but stick to the Google route. Portable GPS's do have there place though.

Negative. I went out and bought a sd card yesterday. Gonna try it over the weekend. Even asked the service manager at a Toyota dealership and he had no idea about the website, he just knew about the sd cards. Doesn't seem like anyone has a clue about the website.

So reading that link, says it could take an hour to update......and you're vehicle must be running to perform this. Anybody heard anything about it taking that long to update?

yeah I saw that, I'm just gonna pull it into the garage and hook it up to the battery tender and leave it in accessory mode.

Yeah I was thinking about that myself. Just be sure to disable the auto shut off if you have the push button start. I'm sure mine is outdated as it's a 2016. I'll look into it some and see. Don't have any extra SD cards but they're cheap enough to try and play around some.
