You can ignore the 3.5mm aux connector if all you’re trying to do is split out the USB. It’s already split out up by the head unit.

04250 does work in the trucks if you have Nav this unit is nav unit. But be warned. It’s in KM only, so each time you start your truck it defaults to KM. Not a serious issue, unless your OCD and just seeing that each time gets you going.

Good to know, I got mine off a member for super cheap compared to EBay or other listings on here. Maybe one day I’ll do the 04200 swap but for now i can deal with the KM

I have this HU currently 86100-04163 premium-non JBL. Would you be able to tell me (identify) which port is the 3.5mm on the radio? I have abandoned the factory harness for the media port and successfully turned the port into a fast charger. I want to disconnect at the HU the five wires that went to the 3.5mm jack but can't figure out which is which. In addition, I want to connect the HU with a cable for the 3.5mm jack to the Leewa cable below. Any ideas if such a cable exists? Thanks!

Here are some closeups of the female end for the 3.5mm jack. I need a cable from here to the HU 3.5mm connection.

The grey plug at the HU is for the USB is there a plug at the HU for the 3.5mm jack as well?

It’s basically the same as upgrading from Entune 2.0 to Entune 3.0 in a 3rd gen using a Tacoma head unit.

The upgrade wiring harnesses should be the same whether you use a Sienna head unit or a Tacoma head unit.

The only big difference is that the Sienna screens are smaller and the head units seem to be easier to come by.

I drove my truck around for a few weeks with a Sienna head unit and didn’t notice any issues other than the usual ones that folks encounter when doing the upgrade.

Not to say there aren’t any risks, I’m not a Toyota engineer, but I didn’t notice anything myself.

If my 2017 has the built in Nav do I need to get a unit that has nav too?? Or can I get the 86140-04230 model without nav?

And if I can downgrade to the one without nav does it effect the driving cluster in anyway?

    Thanks!

You can get one without nav and it’ll work fine. The nav box sticks with the old radio, not the truck.

I have a 2016 TRD NON-JBL with Navigation. Looking at 86140-04230 VS. 86140-04200 what am I getting with the 04200? it seems a lot more expensive. I know it has has the Navigation box option, is that the only difference that makes it premium?

My old 2016 navigation required the SD card update. Do the newer ones on the 04200 require a subscription or something, I know they don't use the SD hard anymore.

I'm thinking if the only difference is just Navigation, I would just get the 04230 and learn to use Apple Carplay.

CarPlay is very easy to learn and it looks gorgeous on the display. The maps are also frequently updated so you will find the most up to date directions in there. They also pull traffic in real time and can reroute you if your route is backed up.

Honestly I’m not sure why anyone would want integrated navigation over CarPlay.

Couple more questions before I spend my money.

Since I had navigation and I go with 86140-04230, I just buy a harness from AHH without Navigation, and leave the old 2.0 connector for NaVigation loose?

I know the CarPlay needs USB connection for Navigation. What about playing music? I typically just Bluetooth the music from my Iphone without needing to connect it with a cable.

Yep, you just use the AHH harness and plug it into the available wires from your truck. Whatever remains isn't needed for functionality.

To access CarPlay at all (navigation, music, phone calls, etc), you will need to plug it in via USB. Most older CarPlay systems were made that way. Now, some of them are wireless. If you'd really like, you can buy an adapter for less than $50 on Amazon that creates a wireless link for CarPlay by plugging into that USB port.

So the radio is completely tied into CarPlay? No independent radio that I could use Bluetooth with?

I will also need a USB Connector from AHH as well, correct?

No, the head unit still has its own radio functionality. You can play music over bluetooth and listen to FM, AM, and Sirius radio. All of that works like any other car.

To use CarPlay, you will need the USB connector from AHH.

Is there a way to test a head unit for operation? I’m buying one, but I don’t have a way to check if it works before paying for it.

Plugging to my truck isn’t an option because i haven’t bought the needed wire harnesses

Installed the unit today, experiencing couple of issues hoping others have figured out:
    • I have the Entune 3.0 w/ GPS. However, my GPS coordinates and location is not correct. It's somewhere 300-mi away, all the time.
    • The Eco (MPG) in-dash feature isn't working properly. I was under the impression that with a unit that includes GPS, this feature would work. Is that not the case?
    • Dash lights and head unit does not match, as expected, however, has anyone figured out a way to get them to calibrate and match?

My Canadian 04250 is out and my new 04230 is in. Not having NAV is just fine because of CarPlay, but damn I didn’t realize that some 3.0 came with the maintance schedules and some didn’t. Guess I’ll have to remember the old fashioned ways.
