I got the extended warranty because my wife is an expert negotiator and got it thrown in for a ridiculous price. It came in handy when I had to have my rack and pinion, steering column, and intermediate steering column replaced. Parts alone were 150% + of the price of the warranty.

    I've got a 2020. I'll still take my chances.

I kept denying all the extra's the dealer threw at me, he came back at me about 3-4 Times. I had him down to a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty for about $1000 and I still said no. He was pretty pissed off.

3rd Party Extended Warranty? Cancel immediately! Be prepared, they are going to fight to not give you back your money. Just Cancel, it's not worth the stress of getting your claim denied and knowing you could've fixed it with the money you gave them. The only possibility is a Toyota warranty but I wouldn't get one of those either.

Are you saying you don't have to use a dealer to provide scheduled maintenance, oil changes etc., and they'll still honor their 'lifetime'?

If so, that's a real surprise.

I hope you never have to test it................. 'cause you may be in for a dance.

Not what he said / I'm asking about.

The topic was a dealer provided lifetime warranty, not Toyota's (or anyone elses) standard or extended warranty.

Dealer provided lifetime warranties typically require all scheduled / routine services to be done at the dealership to remain in force.

I paid $1095 when I had my Tacoma and bought it again for my 4runner. It’s a small price to pay for a peace of mind, and you can always get a pro rated refund if you end up selling or change your mind.
Best to form your own opinion and see where you can get your warranty the cheapest.
    Mine was/is a 6 year/100k bumper bumper warranty.

This x100. Life is a gamble. It’s your call. Considering the reputation of these trucks, I’d pass. Is there a chance you might regret that? Sure. But there is a bigger chance you will flush your money right down the toilet with that extended warranty. That’s my 2 cents.

If my BSM went out in the truck after 5-6 years, I’d just consider it a loss and just never bother attempting to use it again. It’s a nice feature, but I have no problem turning my head and looking over my shoulder.

Mine went out in 4 years & from the sounds of it that was pretty common when I spoke with the dealer. The cross traffic function of the BSM was very helpful when backing out of blind parking spots. When you go sell the truck with a malfunctioning BSM good chance buyer is going to pass or hit you with a big deduction in your asking price. Just saying nowadays a extended warranty is nice to have especially when Toyota’s factory warranty is so short.

Do you think keeping your BSM off unless say... you are using it on highway trips would extend the life of it? Maybe they aren’t intended to be kept in the on position for every second you spend in the truck? Idk..

I would never do a third party warranty on a vehicle. Most have clauses in them that if you don’t have documented evidence that you completed ALL recommended preventative maintenance that the warranty is void. For example if the manual recommends a full cooling system flush and spark plug replacement at 35,000 mi and you don’t do it, they can void your expensive warranty.

I’ve had some training on buying cars including all the add ons and warranties. 1st rule of thumb was extended warranties are not worth it UNLESS you can get it for the right price. Case in point I paid $100 for my 7 year bumper to bumper warranty. The guy with the class said if you can get a good long term warranty for under $600 it would be worth the expense any more then that don’t waste the $$$. This guy had stats on everything car related bottom line at the time was average 1 time car repair was about the $600 so it would pay for itself with one repair.

For my ‘05 Taco, it wasn’t needed and I didn’t get it. Traded it in 2017 with 115k.

‘13 T4R, different story, I got the extended warranty and paid $0.00 for the replacement of the front driver & passenger power door lock actuators which would have been $550 each and now need the passenger rear one replaced, so I broke even

Toyota places the BSM’s were they are susceptible to contamination from the elements like winter road salt. The radar case or the connection corrodes then causing the faults. Has nothing to do about the usage. Mercedes has the same issue with their sensors so it’s not only a Toyota problem.

I bought one from Toyota but as it's currently under a full warranty if I cancel do I still only get a pro rated refund? It's not really even in effect until after 3/36k right?

Anyone have a link/list of what the extended warranty specifically covers?
