Overall I agree. Technically the OP didn't say the price range that he thinks is unreasonable, so there isn't much to say there. The $100 was just a random assumption on my part. If I were to sell, it would be listed probably at $450-500 but I just like to keep the stock parts just in case anyways. I still have the headlights and everything else because none of it seems worth getting rid of.

 

Have you seen the going price for a good condition 8-track player? Hang onto that stuff, it’s worth at least a burger or two!

All funnin aside, I typically donate or give away most stuff that I no longer want/need. My wife and I are on a serious decluttering kick and most of the things we are getting rid of head to a local catholic charity store. There is joy in giving!

 

“Real cost”? That’s a screenshot from the Toyota parts website for the dealer I use that is by far the most reasonably priced in my region. On Toyotas main website it listed at $7k. I’m not saying anyone is buying it at either price, simply that OP complaining about people asking $700-800 for an OEM head unit doesn’t seem as unreasonable when compared to a new one. Others have mentioned CoPart for $400-500, then go buy one of those if you want to.

I bought a 2021 OEM radio to upgrade to AA/ Carplay. I got it relatively cheap from another member here. IT is still sitting on my garage shelf.

About 15-16 years ago, I had a Dodge Caravan. And I had a set of separate studded snow tires on their own rims for it.
Sold the van, but kept the snow tires. After awhile, got tired of them taking space in the garage. I probably could have sold them... they still had at least another 20-25K miles left on them. But I didn't wanna go through the hassle of waiting for someone to show up at a certain time (Which you never know if they are going to show up).... But I just wanted them gone.
So I put and ad in the local 'Swap n' Shop' newspaper saying they were free - You come get. I thought 'Ya know, maybe there's some single mom out there who doesn't have any $$, but needs these to get the kiddo's around safely' or something like that..
So some guy calls me and wants the tires. I gave him my address and told him they'd stacked in front of the garage in the driveway. But he wanted ME to bring them to him. 40 miles away! I told him 'Noooooo... Ad says you come get...'. Guy actually got pissed at me that I wouldn't deliver them to him! Told him 'FU and don't bother, you ain't getting them'.
So much for trying to be a nice guy, right?
Ended up giving them to one of my son's classmates.

 

Sometimes, I'll try to get at least 50% of what the item cost new, but I will factor in the condition, use of the item etc. I'll also entertain offers from buyers. But, if I see something marked very high, I'll just move on if I don't need to item badly.

 

that is how it is supposed to work!
If someone is close, I will engage, and counter with a respectful offer. If they start way off? I already know we both value said item entirely different, and it's not worth either of our time to start negotiations,, furthermore, being that far off can create tension too.

 

My guess OP is bitter that he can't get parts for free or close to free.
