Hello all. I have done a basic search and it apears that if i use 3rd gen front suspension in my 2nd gen it can help level it out some. From what I've read it sounds like the 3rd gens are an onch taller in the front. So taking all that into consideration, I have a set of the hitachi sport shocks and springs that were a take off of my sons 2018 sport. I now have a 2006 with new frame and leaf packs that were replaced under recall in 2015. Since this will be my daughters truck, id like to dress it up some with wheels and some 265/75r16s and level it. The 2006 is a trd offroad but the the bilsteins are origional with 125k miles. Im hoping to get some input from anyone who knows about using the 2018 trd sport front struts that only have 20k miles on them. The truck will not see heavy offroad use. Just windering if its a good idea since i have them laying around. Or should I just buy new stuff. Im not a big fan of taking them apart lol.

The 3rd gen “coil overs” will give you a lift, assuming the OEM springs are included.

On the 3rd gen we replaced the fronts with new springs and 5100s. So i have a set of springs and shocks ready to go already assembled (strait take offs). I also have the upper control arms from that truck as well

I put a set of 2020 TRD sport coil spring/struts on my 2010 Trd sport with 155k. It Tightened up the steering and gave about 1” of lift. I am very happy.

I put New (600 mi) 2019 OR struts on the front of 2015 DBLC (at about 48k). 3/4 Inch spacer as well. Rides fantastic and settled into about 2" of lift. Very happy-you have the parts so just do it, you won't be disappointed.

If I'm not mistaken you need 3rd gen TRD OR (Billies vs Hitachi) assemblies (technically just the springs) to get the 1" lift. That's what I got on my reg cab, I think I ended up getting a bit more lift due to the weight of my truck.

There's a thread with plenty of pics, info...I'd refer to that.

Im 98% sure you need the 3rd Gen Off Road springs to get your leveling lift on the front of the 2nd gen. I did it so i know it worked on my 2013.

Reviving an old thread before attempting to start a new one.

I've been wondering if the Bilstein 5100's made for a 3rd gen set at zero will also accomplish the 1" lift.

If you want more than an 1" lift and use the 5100's made for a 2nd gen the more you lift it the more you're limiting the travel on the shock. If the 3rd gen shocks are an inch longer to begin with you'd be limiting the travel less with the same amount of lift.

I know its been a bit. But my update as of now. My parts list so far.

Bilstien 5100 adjustable with 3rd gen springs
Icon progressive 1.5 3 leaf pack
    3rd gen trd offroad wheels
    Misc parts
3rd gen ucas with 8k miles
Mics diff drop probably wont use

Only question now is to go with 285/75r16 or 265/75r16. My inner debate now is do i want to do poacers and trimming or not.
Sorry for the late revival. Just looking for others experiences. And if anyone knows what it will take to clear 33s on stock 3rd gen trd wheels. 16x7ish

Sitting side by side. It looks like the 5100s are about 1/2 inch longer than 3rd gen strut. That is with the spring still on 3rd gen strut

Thinking about going with a set of these take offs, especially after I put on my bed cap.

    Tall and Skinny tires.

    I have 285/75/17 for off-road.
You need to trim the front fender liner on passenger and driver side.
and delete your mud flaps. See photo.

They will fit with no steel chopping or aggressive surgery.

Don’t do what I did, and zip tie the plastic liner more forward. Just chop/trim it off. It will save you grief if and when the zip tie breaks.

From what iv read my wheels are 3rd gen wheels with 25mm offset 7 inches wide. What wheels and offset are you running? Spacers or no? Seems as if most people are running spacers on toyota wheels to save from hitting the uca.

Spacers are a good way to weaken the connection between the wheel and hub. Fine for a mall crawler, but ill advised for any serious off-roading.

The truck wont see any serious off roading. However it is my daughter's daily drive. Thats why im leaning toward 265/75r16 and no spacers. When i do tear into it the truck is getting new breaks, and ball joints if needed. I believe im gonna stick with 1.5 rear 2 in the front.

Here is the before and after. Falken wildpeak at3 265/75r16. 5100s on the second setting from the bottom. I believe since the springs we used were from a crew cab we got more lift in the front than expected. On the test drive the truck rode great. Have not installed the icon progresive aal yet. Going to have her drive it for a week or 2 and see if the front settles in some.

Looks great, I ran those wheels on mine for a while. Such a difference.
