My .02.... Bought a 2019 4x4 Sport automatic. First tank (87 octane) averaged 17.3 (verified by math). Second tank: 89 octane jumped up to 20.3 (again verified by math, within .1mpg of computer). May be too soon to say but the higher octane clearly got improved mileage. Not only that, throttle response was improved and transmission isn't hunting and downshifts are easier to modulate without kicking down multiple gears. YMMV!

Nothing you do will help. You'll have to adjust your driving style to see any improvement.

Obvious but the #1 factor influencing my mileage is where I drive. If it's a tank where I barely leave the city, then I'm hovering around 14-15 mpg. If I do a few weekend trips on the highway it gets closer to 17-18 mpg. More or less as promised by manufacturer. I'm sure all the owners on here claiming 20mpg averages are doing mostly highway miles.

I only put about 7k a year on my vehicles-- I commute to work by bicycle, so my driving is all groceries / errands + weekend trips to the mountain.

This is kinda interesting. Turns out the new Ranger (at least the one they tested) bullshits it’s owners about MPGs, by a pretty good margin. Truck reports 4MPG better economy than factual/actual.

    Wow, seriously
I drive conservatively and have never gotten under 21 mpg, driving from AZ to Orange county I get 26 with cruise set at 70. I have a bone stock 19 SR dcsb V6 4x4. Less than 20mpg is totally unacceptable to me.
    PS nice truck skierd !

Wow. So now I’m questioning some assertions I’ve made and was believing. I drive a 2018 2.7EB F150 for work, which posts similar economy to my 2017 Taco (F150 only slightly worse). This has always amazed me as the F150 is a fully laden service vehicle, and my Tacoma is mostly empty.

Now I’m thinking the dash display on the Ford is just a bunch of bullshit.

Wouldn’t surprise me. My buddies f150 has shown 20+ mpg regularly and his hand calculated number is like 16 lol

    Wow, seriously
I seen a video of the new Ranger going over rough terrain and those trucks pogo up and down on the front suspension so much I started laughing....

Ok, so it’s safe to say Ford’s dash calculator “adds” 4MPG of economy to actual economy numbers across their fleet of trucks. :thumbsup::rofl:

    WTF?

That’s better than the clever Germans with their secretly polluting VW diesel shitboxes.o_O

Watch the TFL videos of them off roading and see it nose dive into things on the regular. I love the reasons they have for it being better than the Tacoma

Most of it is things they ripped off from the Tacoma (trail control) or things like fuel economy which isn’t accurate…

There was a Ranger Commercial that started with asking if you were shopping for a Tacoma and suggested the Ranger instead, I noticed it bouncing quite a bit too as it showed it going thru rougher terrain, lol.
