Has anyone out there upgraded their headunit on a third get with and Android Auto or Car Play unit? I'm looking at a few units from Crutchfield and I'm wondering about the extend of compatibility. The website indicates steering wheel controls are retained, but I'm curious if any of the information displayed on the 4.2in center display loses any information.

My Kenwood 9905 with idatalink maestro provides the same info in the center cluster and steering wheel controls. I think you need a unit with maestro comparability to keep all the info/compatibility.

The 9905 has wireless Android auto. I wouldn't pay for that again until it works better. It drains the battery quickly and is very glitchy. Generally, I think it's only good for short trips if it works at all.

Thanks, so you can still get gas mileage, song playing, caller ID on the center cluster (between tacometer and speedometer)...etc.

Also, RE: battery drain, I was thinking IQ charging pad would care for that.

I think so. I don't use the HU gauge cluster so don't know all that it can do. I know you can change the gauges shown but I've never bothered with that.

Did you install yourself? I’m looking at crutchfield, too and do my own install, but I really need good instructions as to where to mount the maestro, how to run new mic, how to hook up backup camera, etc. Did you have instructions or just sort of winged it? Is it as simple as plug and play?

I didn't install myself because i wanted a stock look mount for the USB. My friend did his and other than the USB coming through the paneling it looks good. He said it was easy and made fun of me for paying someone.

Just throwing this out there, Best Buy is doing free installs on radios over $100 if you buy it from them. They can get the maestro RR harness to retain all functionality as well
