Do you guys know how weird it makes you look if you go into an AutoZone and ask for a 9011 bulb, then shake your head and leave while muttering "that's German, not Korean"? I do, twice over.

Happend to me three times! Though the first two were O'Reilly's. And while I lurk this thread, I couldn't stand losing the 9011 on my car if I choose to change my assemblies to factory LEDs. So, while not my final decision, I ended up buying these to hoard:

Sweet setup @mynameistory. All you need is an overtaking video like this...

Especially someone with their PnP LED bulb in a reflector housing!

I reached out to Dave as soon as I had LED headlights being shipped my way, and we've been going down the rabbit hole ever since. You saw that he put up PnP adapters for OEM LED headlights right?

And FWIW, I have a new order of connectors inbound for you T4R guys, temporarily sold out. Should be sending by the end of the week, they are quick enough to make once I have the parts.

For 2021 MY only they made two models: LED low and halogen high/DRL, and for Pro and Limited they made bi-LED low/high with the halogen DRLs wired in series to dim the bulbs (6V each). 2022 forward they will all be bi-LED.

LED w/ Halogen High beam ($647.97)
    L: 81070-35600
    R: 81140-35610

    LED Low/High beams ($697.30)
    L: 81070-35610
    R: 81140-35620

The bi-LED has a shutter for the high-beam, and it's fairly underwhelming- just a small punch of extra light above the cutoff. But with the older halogen high-beams used as before, you can activate the shutters as well for quad factory high-beams.

I have not yet tried my headlight laser alignment setup. Jeeps been in the shop for a long time, but would be worth trying on the 1st Gen Tacoma with new OEM headlights.

But yes, if your rear squats more it changes the projected angle of your aim, causing it to need to be adjusted. Height also matters, too high and the beams need to be aimed down more. Lots of great info on Stern’s site on aiming.

    Finally got number 2!

    PXL_20220506_195204735.PORTRAIT.jpg

As I was checking out, the cashier said "You're supposed to change both bulbs at the same time."

"I know, I already have the other one. You should probably stock more than one of these per store. This is my fourth AutoZone looking for these." :D

What models call for 9011 bulbs from the factory? Probably a very small percentage of vehicles on the road.

4Runner LED projector vs halogen reflector high beams. The color and exposure is off on these photos, as they're just quick shots in auto (with Google tuning the shots as it sees fit). The LED isn't really this blue/green.

    LED low beams

    PXL_20220507_082014870.jpg

    LED high beams

    PXL_20220507_082019504.jpg

Halogen high beams (actually, this is just DRL mode with a longer auto exposure). But useful for showing the beam pattern.

    PXL_20220507_081948969.jpg

    Both high-beams on

    PXL_20220507_082026551.jpg

You can see that the LED projector high beam just adds a punch right at the existing low beam hotspots, while the halogen pattern has "boxes" that spread out to create more flood light for improved foreground and peripheral illumination.

If that guy gives me a good deal on those headlights, I'll probably just run the LED low/ halogen high beams. I think he has the Pro model. Not sure if his had the shutters.
