I just put in the Philips XV2 capsules from XD(purchased from TRS during the 4th sale). I can honestly say these are by far the best of the best that I have used when it comes to halogen, LED, and HID. Powered by Hylux 35w ballasts. They give off a pure white/warm white color(no blue). Distance is great, glare is minimum. Still playing with the height adjustment as I just installed my lift as well. I also bought a D2S pair to put in my Infiniti QX70S but comparing the two would be apples to oranges considering it has proper HID projectors. The RX350 projector retro-fit is next on my to-do list for the Tacoma but for now these are great. I previously had the Morimoto 5500K bulbs. Good, but just too much blue for me.

I'll be anticipating your writeup on the rx350 projectors. Id love to see how they compare head to head with the same HID system in the stock housings so i can justify the investment or not.

Just put the H9s in the low beams! Bought the extension harness and it was an easy 2 seconds for everything to fit. Projection/output is much better! all for $14. Thanks @crashnburn80 !

Retros will have better focus and projection with improved output, but importantly have sharp flat cut offs without the halogen squirrel spotters, which are not the kindest to oncoming vehicles with HIDs. You also get to run legit D2S German bulbs, rather than Philips bulbs that have been rebased. Rebasing accuracy can very and is not equivalent to a proper precision made bulb by an OEM supplier.

Just curious which Harness are you using? And where did you get it from? I'm waiting when Headlight Services makes their harness for the 3rd Gen headlight.

I think he is talking about the mini jumper conversion harness, not a full HD harness.

I do have my old spare Rallylights H11 12awg full HD harness with upgraded Bosch relay if someone wanted it. However it is a prototype fog harness, so the lengths are a little long, especially the passenger side.

you dont really need a harness if you're just running H9's

Definitely do not need, but you can get a small boost in output pulling power directly from the battery with heavy gauge wiring. Roughly 15% more.

I took crashburn80's advice and switched out XD extreme LED pro's out of my low beams for GE megalight 130s... Wow, I can see out in the distance again! I tried to swap the XD's into the H9 high beams but now they don't turn on anymore... No worries for now though since the GE's gave me back good vision. I can remove the XD's and swap back to stock.

It is much better to be able to see while driving than to adore the brilliance of the white flood lights that actually made it hard to drive at night. Thanks crashburn80 for your advice and empirical testing!

Amazing how proper optic engineering results in outstanding projection vs trying to use a drop-in LED that results in a focus lacking flood light.

Note for your next purchase, the GE Xenon +120s are a little better than the GE Megalight +130. :)

For your high beam it is likely a polarity issue. You just need to reverse the positive/negative wires. However replacing the high beam with those LEDs is also a significant downgrade. The H9 is rated at 2100 lumens at 12.8v, however the trucks run closer to an average of 13.8v, meaning actual output is closer to 2700 lumens. The XD LED is rated at 1900 lumens and will suffer the same lack of focus problem it did in the low beam. So you will have cut output by over 42% and lost your distance projection trading it for lower output scatter.

Change to what? I mentioned they were powered by 35w Hylux ballasts.

I put Diode Dynamics in and love them. The 3 year warranty and not being overly obnoxious fit the bill for me.
