I keep seeing posts about all kinds of other trucks having a code of buttons you can push to turn the truck into high idle to warm up. Curious if anyone knows of something similar for 3rd gen tacomas or know if it exists?

Truck automatically starts in high idle. It stays there until temps are reached. It is one of the fastest to warm up in the industry. Not sure what you want.

No need, the ECU will adjust as needed.
There are some idle adjustments on large trucks that need to run accessories at a higher than idle speed, but never heard of a modern light vehicle (passenger) having this. And, I’d guess it would go against emission standards.

When you start your engine, listen to it and you will notice after 10-20 sec it gets quieter. The first 10-20 sec is the high idle. I usually let my truck sit 2-3 min before i drive it, if its really cold 5 mins even.

Fast idle when cold in my truck stays on a long time when first starting. I can remote start it when it's cold out, let it run 10 minutes or more, and rpm is still hovering at over 1000 rpm. It's like doing a neutral drop every time I drive it if the truck sat and cooled off. It is the one thing I really dislike about this truck. Never had any vehicle that wouldn't idle down after running a little bit on a cold start. 3.5 v6 with automatic.

I guess I'll have to pay closer attention. Normally I start it and when it idles down to 1000 is when I go. Putting in reverse immediately drops to 550.
    Always thought that was normal.
If I drive before the idle down to 1000, the power steering makes it surge.

Never noticed that in my truck...it'll fire up with a high idle for about 30 seconds, and drop to 1100 rpm. At that point I drive off.

Speak for yourself. This is one of the slowest vehicles to warm up of any that I've driven.

How many of those vehicles are diesels?

Most run at a higher RPM for a little while after initial start, but there's no setting to turn that on and off at will other than a rock on the gas pedal.

Mine did this when I first got it. There’s a TSB for it and it fixed mine.

After it winds down to 1100 and you shift from P, to R or D, it doesn't drop to 550?

From what I understand, it is normal for the tacoma, my truck does the same thing as what you are describing, sets at about 1000 rpm when cold, drops to 550-600 when put into gear. I just don't like it lol!

Would you happen to know what the tsb code is? I would love to have this idle down a little more after warm up after a cold start before slamming into gear.

I don’t, but it specifically addresses this issue. I’ll try to find the paperwork.

Thank you Sir, much appreciated! I will try to look up some tsb's also to see if I can find it.

Maybe I am lucky then. On a 35 degree day, about three minutes and there is heat.

It isn't necessarily a 'good' thing that your truck gets hot really fast.

This thread and some of the other quirks I read about I deem normal but I have only driven tacomas.
Had I driven other trucks, perhaps I'd raise more question.

I'll 2nd that as far as the operating temp. I can drive 5 miles before my temp gauge reads mid way.

You're suppose to put foot on brake and short press ignition. Foot on gas with long press ignition will cause high idle. You also need to put phone down and stop browsing tacomaworld to notice this phenomenon!
