I have a 2018 Gen 3 Tacoma base model. It comes with Hitachi shocks. I have 26 k on my truck. I recently started looking for better shocks in order to improve my Tacoma’s factory shocks. I found someone who also has a 2018 Tacoma with 25k miles; however, that person upgrade le his shocks and I’m considering using his used Blistein 4600 shocks and putting them on my Tacoma. Would I be upgrading at that point or should I keep my regular shocks?

I have a friend who is willing to install them. He’s a mechanic and it won’t be a hassle to me however I was wondering if I will feel an improvement?

Depends the discount on them being used. If it’s not much used to knew might as well buy 5100s IMO or even wait till you find a pair used. Not much experience with your current set up. Like I said you would need to include info on price to justify “worth it”

I would say just got for it at that price not sure if you even need uca’s or what the upgrade for that is to your stock. But at that price and if you don’t have to worry about installation. Give it a shot keep your old set up worse comes to worse you could take them off and sell and probably make a few $

I originally switched out my Sport Hitachi shocks to the OR Bilsteins. The ride was softer and felt like my truck became heavier, if that makes any sense. I had it on for about a year, then my front end started to squeak. I took the truck in to the dealer before my warranty was over and they said it was the front coilover assembly. They switched it back to a brand new set of Hitachi shock coilovers and only noticed when i went to pick up the truck. At that point, i just left the Hitachi shocks on the truck. Now that i have had both, i like the Hitachi shocks better since most of my driving is on the street, my steering feels more responsive and I can feel the road better. If I had to do it all over again, i would have just stayed with the Hitachi. I may go with the 5100 when i need to replace the current set.

You don't need to swap the UCAs. Those add a leafs will make your rear end stiffer.

Do yourself a quick favor and shoot over to the dealer and take an OR for a test drive. Drive on bumpy back roads and highway. Hit the breaks hard to get a feel for nose dive. Like I said limited knowledge to that suspension set up so best advice I can give. Still 25k to those are practically barely used and they’re 320 alone with out the springs I believe.

Not sure what shocks are in my tacoma, but imo, they suck...maybe the entire suspension kind of sucks to. I eventually plan to change the shocks to some mono-tube KYB's. I know they work well.
