    So, three developments:

    1. This suggestion by Markc has done away with the squeak, but it is likely to be only temporary (until the grease wears off). Will see.

    2. I am officially in the running for 2016 Idiot of the Year:

    3. The knocking/brakes problem is fixed: my lug nuts were all loose to the point of turning with my fingers. I suspect that the wheel was not on the hub properly when I lowered the vehicle after the last re-torque-everything attempt. And since the wheel was already on the ground, with the vehicle's full weight on it when I did the final lug-nut tightening, it still did not sit on the hub (and couldn't move due to the vehicle's weight) so the lugs didn't tighten as far as they should have. Buddy showed me a trick: do the final tightening of the lug nuts when the wheel is in contact with the ground, but the vehicle is still on the jack and partially lifted - allows the wheel to move back into place (if need be) as you tighten the lug nuts.

Glad you found the loose lug nuts before something bad happened. That could've been disastrous.

The seal on my coilovers made that noise when they were new. I used a Q-tip and applied a tiny bit of lube (Corrosion X) where the shaft meets the seal and it took care of the noise. I apply it once in a while now even though it doesn't make noise and everything is well with them.
People and Icon might say not to do it though because the lube might attract grit, so do at your own risk. My coilovers are about 3 years old and seals and shaft are still cherry. I actually apply/wipe down with corrosion X to the entire coilover.
