Hey everyone. Thanks in advance for the help. Got a few questions for ya. Planning to run 285/75r16s (16x8, 0 offset, 4.5 backspace) on my ‘17 Trd OR DCSB. Need a lift to go with it but I’m up between the 2” and 3 inch kits. I don’t like blocks or spacers. Looking to not spend more than $2500. 90% street driving but Need the off-road forgiveness for general trail running, hunting, backwoods camping, etc. NOT rock crawling or desert racing. But love the level, classic taco look.

So far I like the OME Tak16 or one of the complete kits from headstrong off-road. But they’re 2” kits and is 2” with light racing UCAs enough that it won’t rub the UCAs or body? Or do I need 3” kit? Any other kit recommendations? I’ve done assloads of research but it’s time to ask specific questions. Also, think I’ll need to regear it to keep factory power/gas mileage the same?

Thats a 33 inch tall tire. Your most likley going to rub even at 3 inches at full flex or while turning at steep angles especially running a 285 wide tire.

Even with the proper backspacing on the rim? Either way? Any kit recommendations?

I have a full OME lift kit. Details here may help you decide.

Hey thanks a lot. Nice rig you got there. I was hoping to avoid the need to do any trimming and I don’t like the idea of spacers but might be unavoidable at this point. But just love the 33s on the taco. Would have gone Trd pro rims but they’re only 7” wide and the ko2s need 7.5-9 I guess. Anyway thanks again!

Remember, when you lift your tires still have to "fit" throughout full suspension travel. Lifting it only 3" means your tires will have to "fit" for an instant at stock height lol. So, you gotta get them to fit at stock height if you don't want to rub.

ONE MORE THING! If I go with the ome kit will I need to do a diff drop? From what I’m hearing it’s not good to do a diff drop on a crawl control system. Follow on question: if I go with the ome and 285/75r16s, will i need to regear the rack and pinion or will my k&n plus cat back magnaflow make up for what I would lose in power/mpg from the lift and tires? Finally, is a regear bad for the crawl control? Thanks again

From my understanding and don’t quote me on this but diff drops are only for anything over a 3” lift.
I have pro comp pro runners on my rig it’s currently 2.25 in front and stock in rear (for now, but soon I’ll lift the rear too) it rides really smooth and was extremely budget friendly I also currently have 31” falken wildpeaks 265/70/17 around 17” ProComp vertigos. I plan on adding The same shocks in the rear and AAL no brand specific.

I would say stick with Icon 2.5” standard travel, and rear shocks and then get an AAL

You’re all in at around $1600 and probably not going to get a better setup for that price

I was the same way...it was either lifting it or getting a Tundra (which I was starting to get an itch for). I lifted it so I'm keeping it for a long time.

BFG KM2 255/85r16 Bilstein 5100s OME 888, HD Dakar’s, JBA control arms, BAMF Shackle hangers and shackle.
285’s you will prob want to do a cmc. I did bilstein 5100s with OME 887 and HD Dakar’s. Also did JBA control arms. Alignment shop never got my caster correct and I would rub my mud flaps occasionally with only 265/75r16 tires. Switched to OME 888 in the front and had the alignment done correctly with no rub. So I threw on some 255/85r16. Still no rub and no need for CMC. Lesson learned be very specific and check the alignments shops work. If your thinking you want to go with 285s you might want to take a look at the 255/85r16s/255/80r17s

Thanks a lot everyone! I spoke with Marie at headstrong off-road this morning. Good lord that’s an awesome company. Super knowledgeable and helpful. I’ll be buying my parts from them for sure. Gonna go with with the OME kit, 888s, soft ride struts, light racing UCAs, heavy duty dakar leaf pack, Mickey t sidebiters (16x8 with 4.5 backspacing), and bfg KO2s 285/75r16. I’ll post a pic of the truck now and later When I get all the goods. Might be a while but hopefully it’ll answer some questions with regards to rub and the need for a cmc. In the mean time, happy trails.
