Other than a passenger door rattle when it's cold and a howl (there's a TSB for that), I haven't had any problems. Mine is stock. I really think it's just a matter of perspective and what vehicles you came from. This is my first truck and I love it. I've only owned 2wd sedans or coupe prior to the Tacoma. Most common large problems from what I've read on TW would be complaints about the transmission (constant shifting at higher speeds and lack of power) or needle bearing failure (if you lift).

 

Just talked with the guy it’s been wrecked only cosmetic damage, still a clean title. Running the vin # through Toyota now

 

No rubbing currently. C rated tires have thinner walls, you can get thicker walled tires to accommodate more load.

 

Seems like a great deal. That would probably cost $33k out here. Maybe have a private mechanic do an inspection.
