If I didn't have a 20+ year history with the shop and the Service Manager's boss I wouldn't go back. The boss spent about 25 minutes on the phone just chatting with me.

One thing he said was, "We're in business to make money, but that's not how we do it here."

I understand that parts and service make a lot of money and I definitely don't want this place to close. I think this Service Manager might have gone a bit far. He's only been there about six months so maybe he was just trying to show he could produce.

I'll just be vigilant and a bit skeptical if he comes up with some other weird thing. And maybe a bit more assertive.

I know it gets cold in CO, but it's going to be -something over the weekend. So, I won't be doing any driveway work. :D

Now, if I win the lottery and have a lot of money I'll build a heated garage with a lift. That way the guy I hire to do the maintenance will be able to work in comfort. ;)

All true! A deserving shop with such a history deserves our business when we are so inclined to do so. Sounds like you've got a good one.

Lemme tell you about that cold ha! Up here in Wisconsin (finally leave tomorrow) its been hitting -20. No thank you.

My next house, the garage needs to be a 3 car and heated. No arguing that!

My next house has to have a garage that I can actually put a vehicle into!

Same boat. We bought this one without seeing first (cross country move)… my long bed doesn’t fit! Felt like an idiot. So my oldschool wrangler and the wife-mobile get the cozy garage. Never making that mistake again.

We're planning a move and one of our requirements is a two car garage. It generally doesn't get as cold where we're looking at going, but it can reach 100+ in the summer. Then there is the hail sometimes.

    Soft Taco,

    Excellent edits - thank you!

My Suggestions: (based on decades of creating similar WhatsUp.Doc’s for my own fame & fortune)

    - On the PDF editions; also make the QR-code itself a hyperlink target. If your PDF generator cannot do this, I will volunteer to add the hyperlinks to your doc.

    - On the PDF editions; make all PN#’s as hyperlinks. Example: The PN for the oil filter would hyperlink to https://parts.toyota.com/p/Engine-Oil-Filter-Element/69279893/04152YZZA1.html Or; deep link to an affiliate link to a seller of GENUINE Toyota parts and harvest a few pennies for your thorough work.

    - On all editions; consider adding a “Check for Updates” hyperlink so we do not have to return to this thread to check/find the latest edition.

    - Consider adding a “Contact” email/proxy address to cloak your real email address and strip trackers - like mine in the next item. If any dim bulbs began to abuse it, @duck.com allows you to destroy the address.

    - If your PDF generator cannot embed hyperlinks, I will volunteer to add them. Contact me at: veh7246s@duck.com

    - Consider adding a copyright notice.

    - Perhaps include a warning about counterfeit Toyota parts sold on Amazon, eBay, RockAuto, etc?https://youtu.be/FVA4RYql9KU & https://youtu.be/aeqYIt1x7Jw

PRO TIP for Safari users: On the PNG editions, press & hold the QR-code to automagically jump to the YouTube catalog.

I keep clicking on those links, but all that has happened is I've punched a hole in the paper! ;)

    Seriously that's a nice touch.

I really like a lot of these suggestions! Links to the part numbers will most definitely be helpful. I will update the v1.1 quietly soon and credit you for collecting those links for us! I also like the warning of counterfeit parts and their existence. Thanks!

Thank you, but this is your document - you decide about what to link. I chose mostly www.parts.toyota.com because it is the safe(r) choice. I could also link the respective www.autozone.com pages because they seemingly sell OEM/Toyota parts. Or; If you added an Autozone label to each item, I could link both.

Your document. Your decision. Please advise.

It’s already done and live! I also like straight to source Toyota parts. Most people won’t buy from there or even the listings it includes but they can see what right looks like. That’s what is most important.

Nice job OP, thank you for your time and effort. I told myself I am done doing my own maintenance, going to let the dealership do it from now on, but I am a control freak with trust issues. Hard decision for me.

I can completely understand that. My truck, my maintenance. Not saying every shop is a crook, but there are a lot out there. And thanks!
