I recently bought a 2017 Off-road 4x4, it just passed 100k miles. The owner had all the maintenance records from the dealer aside from oil changes there doesn’t seem to be anything major done. Anything major I should preemptively do at this mileage? I’d like to keep this truck for as many miles as possible! Thanks for any tips!

Engine air filter, cabin air filter, front and rear diff fluid change, transfer case fluid change, transmission fluid change, oil and filter change again, check brake pads, drum shoes, front rotors, rear drums, flush brake fluid, inspect brake lines, rotate tires, check all light bulbs for function, maybe replace battery, check belts and hoses for replacement. :boom:

Also, check for any frame rust and check suspension for wear and replace as needed.

Spark plugs should have been replaced at 60K.

Change timing chain . Should of been done around 80k . Fuel injection service with spark plugs and wires . Check serpentine belt . Service is not just changing fluids .like others said change out major fluids . Including filters .

What does the owners manual recommend for 'major'?

Has this spent it's life in salt country?

But I'm curious if you don't mind sharing. What does a 5 model year old, high mile (100k is 40k-ish over 'avg') truck fetch these days?

    Go ahead, I'm sitting down.

Timing chain?? You must be thinking of timing belts. We don’t have those.

I thought timing chains never had to be replaced? This engine has a chain, not a timing belt. My old honda had a timing chain and from what I understand they are good for the life of the vehicle when doing research on the Honda engine i had. Is this not the case for Toyota?

You are correct. They do stretch and can slap or break guides but they last a long time.

There’s not a maintenance interval on the timing chain

motors with belts you should check / replace at 80-100k

Timing chains last forever, the old V8's all used them.

I had a bit of a chuckle when the sales guy I was buying my Sport from cracked open the manual and started going over the maintenance intervals, but was pleasantly surprised when I asked about the timing belt, and he said they went back to a chain with the GR series. The 5VZ in my 00 had a belt, and while it had been replaced at 85k miles, I was never 100% sure because I was the third owner and there was no documentation of maintenance beyond a mileage # scrawled on the top of the cover.

Yeah, I was wondering where I could get the "no timing" conversion for my Big Block cause that sounds easier lol

    You still sitting?
    It’s all stock

Tires were updated in 2019 when the truck had 49,000 miles!
    A Faux Grill!
    A painted Grey skid!
    A $30 cb mounted!
    A bunch of trail scratches!
    New Battery in 2020!
New Rotors and pads in 2020

In May a dealership gave me $28,000 for a 2017 Sport with 100,000 miles. They had it up for sale at the dealer the next day for $32,500.

    5CFB7486-F830-4352-B603-6934E95C09A8.jpg
My Radio didn’t work and needed a new head unit. The tires were at 50,000 miles with 1 that had a slow leak. The windshield had a crack. The frame rails were a rusty red!
Also I haven’t replaced the belts, hoses or plugs!

I did recently replace the battery and put new rotors and pads on.

I probably could have gotten more selling it privately but I also saved $1000 in tax savings by trading it in
