Looking for feed back on 3rd gens manual transmission owners who went to a 33 inch tire or its metric equivalent that have gone to 488's or just stayed with the 430 stock gears. Did the 488's and 33's seem over geared?

I have 285/70/17s and a 2017 MT and cant wait to regear. 4.30 seems way too low now. Went offroading tonight and the whole trail i was winding out 1st gear and couldnt get into 2nd (lose all power) i think 2nd gear and 4.88 is the solution i just need to pull the trigger.

I wonder if 4'88 will be enough. Are there 5'29's for the 3'rd gen? anyone tried them? My understanding is the the gears can get weaker as you go in that direction because of there being less contact surface between gears but is that really an issue with the 3.5 since it is not a power monster motor?

31” @ a 4.30 ratio is the same as 35 @ 4.88 (devide size by ratio) so 33 @4.88 will be a geared higher than stock?

I would not mind being a bit over geared. I think that would be OK since it's a 6 speed trans and that 6th gear is prob not used much so that could keep the rpm's down at high way speeds.

Do you have a third gen? 'Cause I put mine in 6th at like 40mph if I'm just motoring around.
