If you put the stock tire size on and got them in a touring tread and drove 55 youd probably get 21-22.

Those are still considered "all terrain" tires , even if they dont look it.

Most the time i average 17.5 to 18 (at 55 mph) depending how good i am, but when i travel on highway at 80mph i get 14.

Ditch the MT's, put on a light weight P rated highway tread and drive at the speed limit or 5 mph under. Like everything in Life it's all about balance and compromising you can't have it both ways.

I can't have any thing less than 10 ply. Anything less cant handle the rocks on our location roads. I had to plug 2 of my stock tires with in 3 days

Fair enough. Like I said it's all about balance, for your situation puncture resistance has higher priority over MPG. Too many guys get caught up with buying heavy oversize MT tires because they "look cool" when they really don't need them and then come on here and ask why they can't get better than 15mpg. :annoyed:

Yep. My next step will be a flowmaster exhaust. Then maybe a aftermarket air filter then possibly a throttle body spacer.

According to Rock Lobster, Flowmaster doesn't breathe very well. He's a well respected member on here so I trust him. Maybe you should find a better exhaust?

I get 19mpg with studded winters in sub 0c weather, but I would never put E tires on and expect good economy.

So, I was getting between 17-18 most of the time, HWY/City didn't matter. I'm also a aggressive driver, but figured I would get more, last few weeks I was in the 16 range, stock tires and all. But this week, after filling up, and I'm about 250 miles into that tank of gas, I'm running around 20.5, WTF.... Go figure, cheap gas also, not complaining and hopefully it stays!!!

I've been getting about 18 to 19 average between city and highway with stock size. I'd go back to stock size

There aren't any rock roads anywhere in America tougher than AZ desert which I traverse weekly during hunting season here. The stocks have held up fine surprisingly. One other member did have an issue with them here in AZ but so far I've put mine through hell and high water and they've taken a beating nicely.

Michelin? That's gotta be some Gulf States Toyota bullshit, in the rest of the country TRD ORs come with Goodyear Wrangler Adventure w/ Kevlar. Still not stellar tires, but they're decent for OEMs.

Remember to add 4% to your mileage due to larger tires. More like 17 mpg now :goingcrazy:

Surprisingly different brands make a difference. Over the past few years monitoring mpg data in the wife's RAV4 on our long trips I've noticed that BP fuel gets about 2 mpg better than any other brand. Usually get 3 fill ups in each direction.
Last trip average was 23 over 5 fill ups, the 6th with BP was 26.5.
