Curious if this topic has been talked about, if so perhaps a link for said thread?

How do y'all that have MT handle hills at a stop?

    Hand brake and pray?

But seriously... Good techniques to handle a hill while stoped?

Put your right foot in put your left foot out and give the lord a shout! people might be able to help a little more if you provide a couple more details like what are you pulling and weight of said trailer.

Well, I guess... But why? ... I mean, the advice and techniques will be universal for whatever is being towed no?

But to please the gods... Let's say a travel trailer at exactly 4849 lbs with slightly larger tires... Wind is at a 234 heading... Sun is setting slightly, with perhaps 45 min of light left...I have driven for 6 hours, so a little tired... My wife is sleeping a little, but about to wake up.

Air pressure in the truck tires are maxed, well 45 in each and trailer at 55.

No water in the tanks. Grey and black tank are empty.

One full propane tank, one half full...

Leave lots of space, blip hard and ride clutch out, no dumping, let the clutch do its thing.

If its leaving a camp site, then 4lo can be used to make it stupid easy. Or use the 2lo mod.

I will finally get the 2lo mod once the switch arrives. I think that will help a ton in camp areas, ect...

Blip hard, ride clutch... That sounds about what I was thinking... Just seems a bit nerve racking if never done B4, which I have not...

Extra space, ride clutch a bit and heavier on the gas. Maybe the handbrake to help hold if you're super steep.

With practice you can hold it with the foot brake and ease onto the gas with the right foot while letting out the clutch with the left. Makes for some real smooth starts with no roll back.

The truck has hill hold that works decent, enough to let you release the brake and get on the gas without much fuss or roll.

Only the sport does. The off road does not

I would just pull the handbrake, keeping the button depressed. Start like normal and one you feel the clutch grabbing slowly release the handbrake. I did this quite a bit with my cargo trailer.. or even without on a couple occasions

If you look up ‘heel toe start’ just as a web search you’ll find lots of info. Basically it’s just the same as any other hill start without a trailer, but more finesse so you don’t spin or jerk the trailer. Since it sounds like a new thing, see if you can find a sloped parking lot or some other place to practice.

Another option is to manually engage the trailer brake (on my Redarc you just depress the knob where you select trailer brake gain). If you are on a serious hill or boat ramp just turn the trailer brake to maximum so the trailer's brakes will lock when you manually press the button, then just let the clutch out and release the button for the trailer brake when it is fully engaged. Just remember to turn the gain on the trailer brakes down for normal city driving after you do that so the lightest tap of your brake will not lock the trailer brakes up. That is another option.

I would heel toe it as a primary option. I miss having a manual. Have had them most of my life.
