I had the oem style that weather tech sells since you cant get mud flaps from toyota for a fender flare less tacoma. Good product but they started to rub after I installed spacers so I went with the rek gens. Like how flexible they are and provide more clearance since they're flat.

After installing my rek gens a week ago.. I can vote a positive for them. Aside from the chrome washer and screws. HAD to paint them black!

Don't have a 3rd gen, but go with Rokz Blockz. They look pretty cool.

I went with RekGen and put them on yesterday. Much cheaper than the RokBlokz.

I am extremely interested in how you mounted these. I ripped both of my stock flaps off on a recent trail adventure and am looking to buy a set for my second gen. I dont imagine that the way they mount between the two is much different. My only concern is how they would be weirdly bent since the 3 bolt holes and the 3 fender clip holes dont sit flush

Unless you off-road.....then stock ones are no bueno. I am literally very surprised I didn't rip them off during a recent trip off-road. I must of scraped them on rocks 6 or 7 times. Time to make a decision of which new ones to get before the next trip.

I think they look pretty good after all. I left them chrome, in most angles they just look white...

So.....Whats a good one for oversized tires and offroad? I bought the plasticolor? ones. I didnt mind them, because they were cheap but when i went from stock to 255 75/17 they rubbed on the front. Now i just went to 285 70/17 and need some BAD! Also @bulalo , seriously were did you get the hybrid sticker/tag?

These are what I went with and they are flexible and adjustable for width. Easy install

Can anyone enlighten me on the differences between the rokblokz and rekgen? Besides price please

Their respected websites don’t really show mounting pictures and I can’t tell which I want because I’m not sure the differences. Can anyone with either one post pictures of the inside wheel well and the mounting? Are they both the same shape or slightly different- it looked like the rokblokz didn’t stick out past the fender as far as the rekgen did (which is better for me being all stock). And both truly bolt on with no modifications correct?

    Thanks

Price is the difference. I have RekGen, I lightened part of the photo I posted above. 4 bolts, no mod needed. The inner one uses a piece of tubing as an extender between the flap and the truck body. There is room to have the flaps protruding from the wheel well, flush with the side of the wheel well, or inside it a bit.

If anyone has some stock flaps in good condition, and just laying around, I would be interested in taking them off your hands. PM me.

Another Rekgen mudflap install here, these are the std size:
    20190406_193314.jpg
Mine came with all black mounting hardware and were bolt on.

One does have to be mindful of the front mudflaps on most any rig when backing out of a rut or curb, the mudflap can become pinched and torn off. I learned this with my 1st Gen so I shortened the front flaps on my 1st Gen a couple inches and never had anymore issues again. I plan to raise this pictured 3rd Gen a couple inches soon so hopefully all is good.

No Drilling; I ended up getting the RokBlokz. They are adjustable, if you look closely at the inside they slide in or out based on your preference. Easy install. Prob 15-20 min total based on how OCD you are. I like them, no issues good quality flexible and I think they look good. Cost really the only negative, but you get what you pay for, as they say. Good luck!

Does it use a tube spacer to mount like the rekgen mentioned above or? From the picture I guess no black hardware

No Spacers... I thought the stainless would bother me too, but you don't see it unless you stick your head in the wheel well. If it bothers you you can paint them black. RB also has some powder coated hardware, you may want to call them for details. Good luck.

Thank you guys for the insight! I purchased and installed the Rokblokz. I’m happy with them and feel good about the mounting system. The ultimate strength will be dependent on what the material is. They could be cut a little shorter if I was real worried about backing into a rock but I really like the coverage for gravel and other debris.

Any chance you have some pictures on the inner fender where the flaps are mounted? Curious if there are any pockets dirt can get caught behind.
