So after being fed up with the needle bearing growling all the time I decide to install the ECGS bushing and took my truck out for a spin and the issue is still there it did not solve it, I am pissed! I have an icon stage 3 lift. Any ideas or thoughts on this? Do I need a diff drop?

Hmmm...no idea. You sure it was the needle bearing that was the problem. Don't see how the ecgs bushing would not have fixed that.

does the noise go away in 4wd? if it does and you've replaced the needle bearing properly then you're looking at a front differential problem.

Yes it goes away in 4wd. Maybe the ECGS does not work for the 3rd gens...

I cant think of any reason why it wouldn't, it is near the exact same differential. You may be looking at a differential replacement/rebuild, there isn't anything else that could cause a growl type noise that goes away when 4wd is engaged if the bearing was replaced correctly. Might be tough with warranty with the lift but I don't know your dealer.

Does that CV axle still have the slop or is it tight like the passenger?
Have you tried zip tying the front drive shaft; eliminating it as a possible source?

It still has slop in the cv and when I put a zip tie around the front drive shaft it goes away which makes sense just like when I put it into 4wd it goes away.

Yep glad I decided to not lift right away/waited. Sucks as this truck should be designed knowing full well Tacoma guys lift. Good luck with fix OP.

Did the lift bring on the growl or make it worse?
The needle bearing problem is usually described by a cyclical vibration on order with tire revs.
I keep thinking how zip tying the driveshaft fixes your noise; diff set-up shouldn't make a difference.
Think it might be the chain drive? Since the driveshaft is spinning in 2WD(for whatever reason), it is as well.

So I removed the front drive shaft and the noise went away and I marked the Front diff flange and the t-case flange and went on a drive then came back and check the locations of each flange for movement, the front diff flange did not move but the t-case flange moved. So now Iam wondering if the t-case is spinning the drive shaft in 2wd making that grrrr noise? Maybe the t-case chain, but it would of made the noise with the driveshaft removed. I am lost.

It's normal for a front driveshaft to spin a little even while in 2wd just due to the fluid transferring movement. Zip tieing the front shaft is about the easiest solution

My truck has the ECGS bushing, fixed 90% of my noise, my truck has the diff drop as well.

Was very noisey and could feel it through the left foot prior to install. I only have a 2 1/2" front lift though.

I did the diff drop when I initially did the lift prior to the bearing replacement. I can't say for sure, but it helps with the driveshaft angle which seems to be your problem. They are cheap and easy to do at least!

Where did you buy your diff drop from? And which one? I did my 885's in front first and didn't notice the vibe until after I did the rear. 5 days later. Mmmmmmm.
