I want to remove an aftermarket radio from my 2015 tacoma. I want to reinstall an OEM unit. Does anyone know if the 2016-2019 OEM units will plug and play in the 2015? Are there some 2014-2015 oem radios that wont work? The factory radio in the 2015 had nav, and SiriusXM radio from the factory. I want to buy an OEM unit off ebay and replace the aftermarket system. Non JBL, trd offroad 4dr. Sorry if this has been asked, I searched but could not find the answer.

I highly doubt it will work. The mounting styles are way different.

And, the 3rd gen head units aren’t very good anyway. You’ll spend less and get a better product going aftermarket. Then you get things like CarPlay/AndroidAuto, video inputs and outputs, higher power cleaner audio outputs, better resolution screen, etc.

Thank you. The only thing i really need is the satellite radio. I live in Montana, we dont have much for cell service and I dont play on my phone. The Sony I have in it now does all that stuff but does not have sat radio. Crutchfields tells me that there are NO NONE ZERO aftermarket radios that can utilize the stock sat antenna in the Tacoma. Therefore, I either get an oem unit or I have to buy a new head unit, a sat radio tuner, wireing kit, controle module, and wire in a new mic and sat radio antenna. Or, i could just add a sat radio face and run a new antenna. It's 2019, i want one unit that does not include me adding extra wires and gadgets to the cab. Idk what oem head units will work. Seems like even within the 2nd gen universe there's a lot of OEM options and not all will work properly or maybe you wont get the correct functions.

The Sat1 antenna adapter will let you use the factory xm antenna with the new tuner. Makes for a stupid simple install. The wiring kit is very easy, as is running a new mic.

thank you for that! Can i ask you another question, you seem to be very knowledgeable and helpful. I have the Sony head in it now, with apple and android, but it's not xm compatible. The unit works great, it has blue tooth and my cell phone works with it. My stearing wheel controls all work too. So, If i change out the sony for lets say a pioneer or kenwood, would I have to get a new or different steering wheel control adapter? There must be one in there now correct? So theoretically it should be programmable for whatever new head unit i wind up swapping for the sony? Whatcha think?

Which Sony model do you have?
If it does CarPlay/AndroidAuto, it should definitely support xm. You just need the tuner and aforementioned antenna adapter.

@destin_meeks you'd think, right. I have the sony xav-100 crutchfield guys, and their website says it's not xm ready . . . Also, here's the clip of the page where it says the oem sat cable adapter is not compatibledatalink tacoma.jpg .

Ugh oh yeah I forgot that made that unit. Not sure why it ever got approved for production.

Swapping for pioneer/kenwood, everything would still work fine. The settings on the steering wheel control module might need to be changed (very easy to do) but that’s it. Cut off the Sony harness, wire up the new harness, swap the mounting brackets over to the new unit, and slap it all back together.
