So you need to buy stuff to silence the stuff you bought.

    No thanks.

For the long or heavy stuff I use a Thule Xsporter with the front tied off to the front bar of the roof rack. Don't lock in anything secured from the cab to the bed though, frame flex can damage anything locked in to the cab and a bed rack.

I bought one of these. It’s in the mail. Been reading and watching a lot of videos. Basically it’s going to leak if I don’t replace foam washers with rubber, put thread seal tape around the threads and then RTV silicone around all the screws correct? Also, would it help to RTV silicone the entire big channel that that black rubber strip occupies before installation or would that just be a waste?

Mounted a basket to my ebay k ockoff, and have had 150 lbs up their doing 80 mph on 1k mile trips with zero issues. I've stood on the basket with no bending in the bars as well. Added silicone and and no leaks for the past 3 years. Paid around $200.

Many, many people have installed the racks normally per the directions and had no leaks.

I read what you advice you’ve read and was apprehensive about it all. But when it came to install time I couldn’t get rubber store bought washers to seat—when you tighten the bolt they burp out on one side, canceling their advantage over the foam. So I used the foam washers and they were fine. I did put a bit of rtv sealant on the bolt threads and in the threaded hole. No observed issues after several years and many rain storms.

I did the same and regret it. Because of the arc of the bars it makes my bike lean to one side unless the carrier is directly in the middle of the rack (which makes it difficult to load the bike). Most likely will sell the OEM and replace with a Prinsu or the similar and recently released rack from TacomaWorld in Alberta - https://www.tacomatownonline.com/co...5-c-tacoma-double-cab-honey-zipper-tt-edition .

Roof rack is on my list of things I want for my truck, I also like the look of the OEM rack.

On my list as well, I think the OEM racks look good. I need one for kayak transport.

Just make sure it’s within the weight specs. 90lbs feels like it’s about the max. I like mine, and it’s quiet and aero when not in use, but it’s also not as burly as other options.

I think I am going to take my OEM rack off. I don't ever see me using it and I like the looks of it without. But it was already installed and you can't be too choosy right now.

Well, make sure to get filler strips for the roof before you take the racks off. You're gonna need them to cover the bold spots :)

Any of you guys installing the oem rack- I will buy your excellent condition roof trim moldings (should be 4 pieces- (2) long, (2) short. Can pay for shipping to 85284 + price of moldings. I've reached out to a few people on local facebook right after they have installed only to find they threw the moldings in the trash. Believe it or not people buy these. Thanks

Reviving this thread and making my first post on Tacomaworld....

I got a 2023 late last year, and I'm considering an OEM roof rack to haul a canoe/kayaks. How you can tell the difference between OEM and one of those ebay knock offs? I've talked with a couple of people on facebook marketplace so far, but I just want to make sure I'm looking at OEM.

When I was buying the OEM from my local dealer, I read reviews on the knockoffs. Don't buy it as there are fitment issues, cheap and people reported issues. I have installed about 6 sets of OEM racks without a single issue!
