Can confirm the 3rd gen rear bumper is the cheapest piece of shit I've seen in a long time.

Girlfriend backed into a post at like 2mph and cracked it in half.

Yeah....Toyota really jerked everyone around with the rear bumper. I understand it’s lightweight for MPGs, but c’mon.....every sentient human being who has ever driven a pickup truck, knows the rear bumper takes the majority of all abuse. Even people mall crawling to the grocery store knock the rear bumper on things. It’s one area on a pickup where you need the durability of steel.

If you haven't been stuck at least once then you aren't trying hard enough.

Either one has its downsides and upsides. I would rather have a plastic one here in MN where most trucks have giant holes their metal bumpers due to rust.

Agree, but if Toyota wants to give you a plastic bumper, they should give you a durable plastic bumper. This is also possible.

They should not of used a rigid plastic for the rear bumper, use a flexible plastic like the front bumper. Then it would of just deformed and gone back to normal after any hit.

Also, if you look at the OEM bumper, the lower edge of the decorative caps faces forward with a protruding lip. It’s like it is designed to get ripped off on the slightest hang-up. It never just bumps or deforms over anything.

Anyways......luckily there are lots of options to upgrade.

His channel is great. A lot of the places he's pulled people out of I've gone to in my Corolla lol. Wild how gnarly it gets when it's wet

Trust me the front bumper is actually even cheaper then the rear one!

This is in no way a new thing in trucks.
When I was a younger lad my father had a (early 90's I recall)Dodge 2500 and we bought the factory fog lights for his bday. My brother and I pull the truck in and start removing the big chrome bumper with my bro ready to "help me" lift the bumper off. Once I had it off I realized it weighed about 5 lbs and it was thinner than a dang beer can.

Not when you've already replaced it with steel.

There was plenty of driving going on and not much reading of the card on the visor.

Everyone is a learner at some point. Except the magical guys here that tumbled out holding the umbilical like a shifter. I always wished Dad had whispered all the traction control tricks to Mom’s belly instead of playing Mozart. Alas.

I'm willing to give people the benefit of the doubt with this one. Turning off traction control along with all of the other onboard nanny settings really isn't intuitive with this truck. Initially, I just assumed that you hit the button, and you're good to go. But you need to be at a complete standstill and hold the button for 5-10 seconds.

This guy actually provides a decent overview as he explains why he got stuck in the sand - https://youtu.be/odKMVL0FaaI.

oof lol Seriously, though... as "bad" as TC is offroad, the TC has kicked in on--icy-road situations and worked really well.
