That's just stupid though, it would cost less than $1,000 to buy a new hood and get it paint matched...

I would prefer OEM paint. Thanks for your input. Not sure why you care about money that isn't yours.

Fair point. Not trying to tell you how to spend your money though. If you want to throw away an extra $500 for no reason, go for it

How many people in this thread actually get a swap, even with $500 added on top? Very few. Offering $1000 instead of $500 is not throwing away money if it gets someone what they want (and quickly). You are just trying to juice the skewp-swapping economy in your favor.

I have not seen one person with a scoop be unhappy about $500. Do I want to see the hood market inflate like the car market right now? Of course not. People who are selling their Scooped Hood straight up are doing so for $900-$1000, so $1000 on top of oem hood doesn't make sense. That's the market, you're the one trying to change it lol

Seems to me like there is more demand for scoops than there is supply. Sellers market.

What do you think the $500 is for? If there was more demand for scoopless hoods they would be straight trade or money on top on the other end lol

Let's use the housing market as an analogy. In a sellers market, buyers must compete for their purchase by making offers above asking. If a buyer wants a particular house very badly, they are welcome to make an offer as high as they want.

Ohhh, so someone is going to buy up all the scooped hoods and then rent them back to us for more than a new hood would cost in the first place? And we still don't actually own it in the end?!... Have you seen how pissed off people are at the housing market right now? Maybe not the best analogy to make!

But seriously, believe it or not, this thread was originally just for people to swap hoods, straight across, zero cash. Just the goodwill of TW bringing two people together for a mutually beneficial trade. Some people like the skewp, some don't. Then people started offering a little cash on top. Maybe $100, then $200, then $250, and so on and so on. It kept bumping up, but then it settled around an average of $500 for awhile. Then some funny guys started trying to be silly and offering $501, $502, $503, etc., just to top each other. Sadly enough that actually escalated enough to bump up offerings to around $525-550+ recently.

Now someone is coming in and throwing out $1k cash on top. If you get one at that price, that's great for you, you got what you want, but the issue many of us others have is that sets expectations for other sellers even higher than they already are, which many of us already consider excessive. As you say though, that's just the free market. Doesn't mean we aren't allowed to disagree and say something about it though.

I actually posted in this thread way back in 2018 joking that I would consider trading my scooped hood for $1000. I immediately got someone in my inbox asking me if I was serious and offering me the 1k to swap. I declined.

That's pretty crazy, especially back then. If $1k truly becomes the "standard" cash-on-top that people start to expect, I'll probably just unsubscribe from the thread and plan on buying a new one if the itch ever gets so bad that I need to scratch it. I'm just subscribed here in case one pops up near me for a reasonable price, but I'm not motivated enough to drive across the country and/or pay those kinds of prices. So if I end up just sticking with my flat hood for the life of the truck, I'll probably be fine with that too.

If one doesn't pop up here for me, I'm buying a capa certified replacement for $450 delivered and paying a reputable shop to paint match it. Only reason I'm subbed to this thread is to avoid having to store my flat hood somewhere until someone buys it lol

I guess I'm old fashioned, working out a straight swap. My sport is a work truck and the scooped hood that has doesn't help when I'm hitching up a snowplow or using a front hitch to move boats.

No one wants to trade a scooped hood for a non scooped hood anymore. This thread needs to face reality.
