Yeah I was kind of getting that feeling from my insurance when I asked the supervisor there about it. My deductible is only $250 so that would’ve been a steal. Even with a police report they did seem skeptical.

For those who have a scooped hood and are considering trading, if you work your truck like I do, you will like the flat hood. Easier to use my front boat launching rig, snow plow etc. The trade took maybe half an hour and we are both happy. In the spirit of this thread's origin, it was a straight swap, no money or other incentive. Pay it forward.

Yup, if I could have found a straight truck without the access cab and the six foot bed I'd have gone for it. Hassle is the turning circle. I've capped the truck so I can leave stuff in the back when it snows.

Thanks again Ben, was nice to meet you and chat for a bit as well, wanted to offer to buy a beer before you had to get going. I messed with my hood's alignment after and was able to get the two gaps about the side, any luck on yours?

I considered buying a scooped hood and getting it painted but eventually changed my mind. During the process I got estimates from two Auto body shops via email (the truck was never physically in either shop). Anyway last week after my final Toyota care I received a free CARFAX report courtesy of my dealership and I came to find out one of the Auto body shops I contacted listed minor front end damage for my vin to CARFAX just because I wanted an estimate to have a new sport hood painted. I did get CARFAX to remove this from my report, but it required me sending them all of the email communications I had with the Auto body shops. CARFAX unfortunately requires you to prove with documentation that damage never occurred. Luckily in my case that was possible, but I suspect it may not be the case for many people.
Just a word of wisdom, always keep those paper trails.

And don't give them a VIN or identifying info just for an estimate. (Though even if they did work on it, it shouldn't be listed as damage repair of course.)

Yeah, they were recommended by my dealership, so when they asked for a vin, I gave it to them without thinking too much about it. Hindsight is always 20/20 of course.
