Ive been watching the progression of this tune for years and never bit the bullet and done it. Im on my second gen 3 now and the issues are still there. Has anyone seen any ill affects from the tune long term? Ive got a new 2021 and want to pull the trigger, just apprehensive about introducing any potential problems.

My 2017 has been on one form or another of the tune since early 2018, no issues at all.

I think I've seen a few guys on here that have had their trucks tuned for around 100k miles and no issues. Unfortunately since the tunes have only been around since around 2017ish, there just hasn't been enough time to get a whole lot more miles than that.

I personally only have about 7000 miles on the tune (9000 miles total) and the only "issues" I have is that I drive/accelerate a bit faster.

Yep, sorry folks, but with the new requirement that I buy a $1200 "Pro Tuner" license to be able to continue tuning it's just not worth it for me. However, there are others out there who DID make the "pro" upgrade, and the tune is well worth it IMHO.

Is the 91 OV that much different from the 89? Like worth the cost per gallon forever? 89 OVT was a game-changer, love hitting that 4k VROOMPH.

When I first started running the 93 SFOB in my truck, 93 was only like ~30 cents more than 87, so the MPG bump basically paid for itself and the performance bump was "free." Currently, 93 is 50 cents or more than 87 (30 cents more than 89) and not really worth it, imo. If you can regularly get gas at Costco or something it might be worth it. I am unable to get 91 here in MD, but I'd imagine that the performance bump from 89 to 91 is probably not really worth the extra cost.

Now I run the regular SFOB Coyoza tune on 89 and see better performance with similar MPGs to the 93 tune. I'd say stick with running 89 to save the money and keep the simplicity of being able to run any octane.

Shout out to @tonered and @Norsk for quick and professional assistance tuning my truck with a custom OVT suited to my rig. I had a lot of questions and these guys really helped dial in what I was looking for and made the actual process as easy as trading some dollars for a wonderful QoL improvement to Toyotas janky shifting/power issues. I am only on my first tank and will likely see more "learning" but the changes are apparent and appreciated already. Much smoother up and down, lower revs and quieter engine noise. Truck enjoys being at highway speeds. Nice offset to all the aftermarket I've bolted on too (tires, skids, tents, etc). If you are on the fence about tuning I'd say it is a no brainer if you are keeping your truck for a long time and want to enjoy its potential for a small investment. Nice experience, great community of ppl here on TW.
