The sticker on my door reads 1000 lbs max payload. It appears that there are 175 lbs in extra weight added at the dealer. I never would have thought that running boards, mud flaps and a soft tonneau cover would account for that much weight but I don’t know of any other extras unless the trailer hitch is also considered extra.

I think the little yellow sticker in the door sill also subtracts for extras.

I'm not sure how much running boards weigh but my sliders are about 90lbs for the pair and are nothing special. Just old revenge Fab hrew sliders in 80 or 82"

    I have Dakars.

Ran 1000lbs in the bed (not joking) and there was 1” of sag with the 7-leaf Dakars.

With the 6-leaf medium setup you will get about the same amount of sag with 500-600lbs

I run the 6-leaf setup because it’s ideal for daily driving and camping trips with gear

All ratings are conservative. That's how engineering works. Sometimes there is a small 10% margin, sometimes 50%. A lot of consumer goods have a 300% margin because users are a litigation risk and safety makes sense.

Visually graded wood is (or at least used to be) rated to the strength of the lowest 3%. This is the typical lumber that you can buy. So, 97% of the lumber is stronger than needed plus all the safety factors.

The brochure for the 2018s is showing 950 lbs payload for TRD Sport manual and SR5 automatic. I was a bit surprised too when I read that the payload on my Off Road is 1000 lbs. That’s what the door sticker says as well. For some reason I thought it should be 1175 lbs.

I mean if all the trucks have a GVWR of 5600lbs then you should just be able to weigh your truck and then subtract that from 5600lbs and get your payload. My truck doesnt weigh 4650lbs empty so idk where they got 950lbs from lol

    How much does it weigh?
Full tank is additional 150 lb and that is assumed.

well i havent weighed my actual truck but the toyota website says my model and options weighs 4480lbs which should leave 1120lbs of payload. im not sure if the 4480lbs is assuming an empty or full tank of gas?

A full tank of fuel is not included of published GVW. It's "nominal" or normal fuel load which could mean a quarter tank
My truck has a curb weight of 4480 lbs, so add 120 lbs and there you go, 4600 lbs.

Let's put it this way, if folks are posting intelligent shit in this thread (your post for example), then you are most likely miles ahead of the curve when loading your Taco, then driving it down the road. You're most likely going to get there safe.

This is more about the unwitting owner who is going to put a ton of drain rock in the bed, their newborn triplets in the back seat, and then whip down the Tail of the Dragon at 60 during a thunderstorm.

What? That's pretty crazy that they'd drop the payload down that low. A few years ago, they were all in the 1350-1550 range. Well, except X-runner, which was only 880. 2005 Prerunner was 1685! Yeah, that was a 3/4 ton truck! (and then some)

They will make it HANDLE it better, but won't do anything about the sticker or what the cop reads in the vehicle's specifications. However, keep in mind that 99% of the problem with being pulled over has to do with SUSPICION. If everything *looks* right, then they won't worry about it. If the trailer hitch is scraping on the ground, they'll definitely get out the scales (even if you're not over the limit).

Y'all need to find a scale.
My second gen peerunner weighs 4200 without me in it and half a tank of gas.

2nd Gens weigh less as do Prerunners.

Trues....Was just stating that for those who are guessing their weights based off of some "spec sheet".
A scale is the only way to be sure where one stands.

    I quite enjoy my hp/weight ratio. Haven't needed 4wd in 12yrs thankfully

I sometimes load my AC 4X4 with 800 to 1000lbs of wood and drive slowly ~10 miles to my house. I don't like how much the back end sags and leans. What are my options? What are your recommendations?
    Thanks.
