Anybody dip the chrome around their black Sport grill without taking it off? I don't want to go through the trouble of taking it out, so I'm hoping to just tape and newspaper it really well. Also wondering how best to make it match the black paint? I think Rustoleum makes a gloss black?

What’s the best way to remove it without damaging the paint besides from peeling it off?
I dipped my fenders and want to take it off now...

I took the entire grille assembly off the truck, taped and sprayed the grill and bezel. That part was easy. Once it was dry, I attempted to gently remove the tape, but accidentally removed some dip from the bezel. In hindsight, I should have used a razor blade on the areas right next to the tape. I ultimately bought a different grill and bezel, dipped them, and put that onto my color matched grill shroud.

So I haven’t had very good luck with dip in the past. Ive had one can of black and it always stays rubbery and tacky? Seemed like if i sprayed any on the truck first time a towel hit it it would be ruined.

This is under a daylight paint inspection light. So as highlighting of imperfection as you can get without actual sunlight. 20190109_201822.jpg
4 coats of black. 2 coats of metalizer. not perfect but i am happy with it. you have to approach the truck and inspect to see difference.

The key with it is doing wet coats except for the first one. When I did my emblems I lightly coated the first but kept doing them too light on the following coats. It came out a little rough and rubbery. After a little research and watching the dipyourcar YouTube videos I hit the first coat lightly as I did before but the next I did heavier and “wet” coats, like just short of the point that they will form runs if I sprayed anymore. This did the trick as I did 7 coats like that and they are now very smooth, like paint and the tackiness went away in about a day.

I don't think so. I was trying to find a picture someone posted with that look. I have a 19 Sport in cement and was thinking of the same look.

I also only did the out most part of the wheel. Ghetto done and i am happy with its results. You can see my ego box on the floor... i taped that to the center cap to reduce over spray to the center of the wheel. lol

Here’s my 2018 Tacoma trd off road wheels platidipped I did the tacky layer and 4 building layers in gloss black then finished the last 2 layers of matte black. And they are holding up awesome!

The gloss black is stickier so I feel like it helps bond it better for heavy duty stuff.

Nope ! Replaced it with SSO Slimeline. But Yes it was perfect when i took it off. On for a good year and a half if not longer .Holds up really well just put on lots of coats and that also helps in removal if you want to take it off!

The black magic TireWet takes it off really well too...

Learned that the hard way on my dipped wheels for my kia. Had to re dip all four after getting a bunch on them and not wiping it off by mistake. Dip bubbled up and sluffed off.
