Has anyone used the clear or color matched plastidip as a protector for the hood instead of 3M film? Does it work?

I did my first ever dip today for the emblems on my Tacoma. I was able to do it all except for the inside of the As and O. How do you get the dip from the inside of the A and O? I tried a toothpick but maybe I wasn't doing it right.

and a big Thank You to everyone for posting how they did this. I wouldn't not have been able to get this far.

You have to spray from all angles. Do one pass perpendicular then start going from different angles 45 to the left 45 to the right 45 up 45 down...

A's and O's were tough for me also. I ended up just removing the badges and doing them off the truck, I just wasn't happy with the way they kind of marked up trying to dig out those letters. Maybe a few more coats would have helped.

Dipped the grill and emblems today. When I left the emblems on the truck and just made to take my time when removing the masking.
I did 5 coats of dip and 2 coats of glossifier.
Removing the grill was very east. As mentioned, it's just 2 bolts and 2 pins then pull it right off. Putting it back on was a little trickier as it was being stubborn lining back up. I used a toothpick to remove the dip from inside the letters.

Finally got around to doing the grill and badges. Didn't want all black, needed some contrast.

Did you do two coats of the glossifier with the emblems on the vehicle? Did you mask inside the lettering so it doesn't get on the vehicle?

I did 5 coats of dip on everything and 2 coats of glossifier on everything. I did leave the emblems on the vehicle. I did not mask inside the lettering. You just use a toothpick or similar to remove the dip from inside. It's actually pretty easy to do and it just comes right out. I was surprised at how it just peels away and stays on the lettering.

That's right, makes sense. Since plasti dip is getting to the inside of the emblems it creates a shield for the glossifier so it doesn't touch the paint. You used krylon glossifier?

I used the Plasti-Dip Glossifier. I would not recommend it as it did not make it look glossy, however, it says it provides UV protection, so I figured that made it worth it since I am here in Texas. I guess that makes it a toss up on whether to use it or not.

That's the stuff. One can should be enough for the grill, but I'd buy two because you'll find some other stuff you want to use it on and it's always good to make sure you have enough for a few coats.

So first time user here. I'm in the process right now of doing my bumper end caps. When this stuff dries, does it smooth out? I've got about another coat or two that needs to go on, however it looks more like a cheap bed liner then a smooth finish. I'm using the rattle cans.

have you cleaned it well with alcohol and let it dry for a good amount of time? maybe its just me but i had a better time applying it with this. i did it both ways with my grill and it made easier and sprayed evenly. maybe this might help also

Great video. Yeah I cleaned it with alcohol and had plenty of dry time. I've done plenty of rattle can jobs with amazing results, I just thought Id try the plasti dip as a lot seem to like it and it doesn't require as much prep. Strange thing is it only did the "bed liner" like appearance from one can at about the halfway mark through the can. Its worse in some spots then others and as I'm unfamiliar with how plasti dip sprays, I moved forward. Once I got to a point where I felt something wasn't right, I tossed that can to the side and got out the next can, no issues after that. Ill also have to look into that attachment for my future rattle can jobs. The fingers/thumbs get tired after awhile.

In all honesty you cant see the "bed liner" finish unless up close, however I know its there and know how these could have turned out had I not been lazy. Its my own damn fault...lol
