Ya it was cold, I don’t mind the texture look tho. Another member said to warm up the can and it will spray smoother

Thx! Ah the Gila! I’ve done many a fire there, sweet place. This photo is near my cabin in Jemez springs, actually Santa Fe national forest. I parked about 1.7 miles from the San Antonio hot springs and hiked in. Best hot spring in NM

As soon as the weather cooperates I'm gunna dip my wheels gray. Has anyone used the satinizer? I like the matte look but am thinking that a coat or two of satinizer might make the wheels easier to clean. Thanks for any advice.

I had a friend who dipped his rims and the problem was he had to reapply every few months cuz it scraped off. I had a Tundra and used flat black automotive engine spray paint and that stuff never scratched

They are a pain. It feels like your gunna break them off but basically grab the top outside edge and just pull really hard. They snap off with some force. I watched a vid, YouTube, of how to replace blinkers and that’s where I learned how to get the covers off

I like the matte black look to the wheels, would anyone suggest still using the gloss coating anyways? I don't want it shiny but I want a little shine I guess but still keep the matte black look. If someone has done that can you post pics of yours? Trying to figure out what I want to do before I go all in and start spraying haha , Thanks everyone. This thread is awesome!

Has anyone used the gunmetal dip on their grille? I was curious how it would look with the magnetic grey.

Dipped the fender flares black. Think they look better that way. this was my first time doing it and I think they came out pretty good :)

I know this is a Plasti Dip thread but has any one used Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating, Dupli-Color Rocker Guard, Rust-Oleoum Truck Bed Liner, 3M Gravel Guard or even VHT Wrinkle Plus Paint for their bumper caps, grille bezel or mirror caps? I like the rough, textured look and feel of bedliner and wanted to see if anyone had experience with these inexpensive DIY sprays and whether or not they are a viable option.

Wait, so you used plastidip to black your headlights?? How is it holding up so far? Doesn't it melt coz of the heat caused by the lights?

OK, so I went all out to try and get the smoothest finish. I set up a paint booth in my small heated shop. I warmed the cans, shook well before each coat and kept them warm between coats. I sprayed each coat at about 5-8 minutes. 8 coats then two coats of glossifier.

This is the finish before the 2 coats of glossifier:

    Final product:

I've got to think that this is as smooth as it gets. The texture looks rougher in the close-ups than it really is. It's actually pretty darn smooth. This looks great. But no way can you get it as smooth as conventional paint.

I'm going to utilize this method from now on with anything that I can remove easily from the truck. ie. turn signal covers!

I need to wait a few days for things to warm up around here so I can do the badges.

I used a similar method on the bumper caps on mine, except it was outside and 50 degrees.

So I caught the derp bug and got after it today. Used one can, six coats, with 30-45 minutes between each. Looking at it up close I see some spots that could use a little more. Any issues with waiting 24 hours between coats? A week?

Really can’t decide if I want to black my sport rims? Has anyone done it and regret it? I overall hate the rims but don’t wanna spend $1500 on wheels and tires.
