Let's put it to a vote - is it a brand new, all-singing all-dancing 3rd Gen model or is it the same dude in a new set of spiffy duds?

Looks like the voting is pretty close... "Look, a squirrel" seems to be gaining momentum.

    Interior is all new.
    Rear suspension new
    Engine (v6) new
    Transmission new
    Frame new
    Belly of the cab new

    It is a new truck.

They hung with a body shape and style because IMO the 2nd gen is the perfect size for a midsize truck and people will instantly know it's a Tacoma. Brand recognition is a big deal these days.

The frame of the cab is a carry over with modifications...the door skins are new but resemble gen 2, frame is modified, new engine, new trans, new drivetrain, new interior, new electrical and different front and rear. Yea it's a new truck I don't know why people complain. People want a better mpg and Toyota puts a air dam up front and people bitch for trying to improve mpg...those people must be miserable to live with or be around IMO  I'm happy with what Toyota did but I always had plans to keep my gen 2 regardless of gen 3...love my current truck but I'm glad to see Toyota making improvements
Look at the success of the Ford heavy duty trucks it's the same cab with different door skins over the years and modified frame and engines...people still buy them

    They addressed the basics..
    Engine vibe
Kept enough engine size to give adequate torque for mid size truck (wonder if tow capacity has changed)
Improved mileage to keep the EPA off their back for awhile longer while testing new technology (Atkinson cycle)
    Heated mirrors - yeah!
Added back a temp/compass function in the gauge cluster (so auto dim mirror is a no brainer if you want it.)
Possible Limited will have heated seats. ( But no power seat, major 'foxtrot-uniform' and will lose customers on this - should come in 2017 )
Projector headlamps (I think led drl's? and assume rear led stop lamps? can't tell)
(interesting that 2.7 is automatic only...)
New enough to be all new.

Lets wait. Then compare trucks side by side.
To me, it's a re do, upgrade, slightly different truck.

It's a new model because Toyota says it is. I was really hoping they would replace the composite bed with a metal one. The truck is too light in the back end now. If Toyota thinks they are so good why aren't they using it on the Tundra or why hasn't anyone else copied it? I'll tell you why...it sux!

It sux is just an opinion. Why does it suck?

    It is hard to break.
    It doesn't dent.
    It doesn't rust.
It does allow shit to slide, but so does a metal painted one. Cured with a bed mat.

What are some of the negatives?
