(2017 TRD OR DCLB w/ 2,300 miles): howls between 54 to 57 mph. A faint high pitched howl. Looks like I should anticipate it getting louder as I add more miles.
I honestly don't mind it as much.

I heard, for the first time today, a faint howl around 25-30 mph. Opened a new case. This. Shit. Needs. To. Stop.

Mine was silent until right around 300 Miles before it started howling.

I noticed mine started around 1200 miles, but may have been sooner but unnoticed until LCA plugs went in.

Last November, after my dealership told me the howl was normal I opened a case with corporate. They sent a factory tech to look my Tacoma and he confirmed the issue and and told me that Toyota was aware of it and working on a fix. He told me to follow up at my next service interval, which was this morning. So I talked with the tech this morning on the phone and he tells me "Toyota engineers have a fix and are close to a TSB" and that he was trying to get me the improved diff parts (he called them "champion parts"; a term I'm unfamiliar with) prior to the TSB but was not able. He said that engineering has to build parts inventory before they can release a TSB, and that's what they're waiting on.

I can't imaging this is bull $hit coming from a Toyota technician; this isn't a dealership guy.

So good new bad news. My 10k service is being done today without a fix for the howl, but sounds like one is in the works.

    Anyone else heard anything similar?

Had my rear diff replaced about 500 miles ago, 10k on the odometer. Still have a slight whine. Dealer told me I will hear a slight whine but it is normal. If it gets louder like the old one, bring the truck back in.

Same here. In my discussion with the tech, it didn't seem like a TSB was an "if", but rather a "when". But maybe they say that to all their customers just to kick the can and hope you'll eventually go away.

They've been telling me a TSB would come out since February and it keeps getting delayed. I think they are full of shit.

Is this typically with Toyota? Do technical folks there have a history of mentioning TSBs that never materialize?

When mine was in for the diff replacement, there was never a mention of a TSB from my dealer.

I'm happy to hear that at least Toyota knows it's an issue and I'm hoping they will be putting the new parts on the 2018. That would get me interested again.

They still don't know the root cause of why they are failing. Industrial sabotage is suspect.

I think it's typical for any company that hires Knuckleheads to do customer service that say anything to keep the customer happy. They'll say what the customer wants to hear to get them out of there and keep him happy as possible.

    That's not unique to Toyota.
