I would not put too much faith into believing that they will have a fix for the Howling Rear in the next few weeks.

    Welcome to TW

I just got off the phone with toyota today and she said there is no known problem/fix.

Either your service advisor has the inside scoop or he's blowing smoke.

But I hope hope hope you're right!

He actually told me that he had a Toyota rep in town today for issues on another vehicle and wanted me to bring it in and set up a loaner to drive while the rep checked my truck. Within 5 minutes he called back and told me that he was told by another manager that this was inside info and fix was coming. Got my fingers crossed. It really surprised me that they replaced the first rear end. I really figured they would say that this was a common noise for all Tacomas.

This is the only dislike I have with my truck. If they fix it, I will be so happy.

Thanks and keep us in the loop!

Please tell me what they do to fix it. There is definitely no way replacing a poorly setup chunk will fix it, so I hope they reworked the center section or something.

I get the feeling the fix may end up being a tuned mass damper.

Didn't your parents teach you that it isn't kind to tease the animals. We've all been strung along with word of an imminent fix for a while now. Why re-open old wounds??

True Panic. If not ill have him replace rear ends until I get lucky and get a good one, or start work on a buy back.

I had my call with Toyota corporate today and got the usual get the dealer to check it out speech to make sure it is not a normal characteristic of the truck. I shut them down quickly and said that would not fly and it's not normal. GM tried this with me on the excessive vibration for our Yukon XL and it didn't end well for them. I got a new one on them. I just want my Taco fixed.

A Toyota corporate rep will be meeting me in two weeks at my dealer for my 5K mile service and to inspect my truck. I have had a howling diff before as a kid on an older truck. It seized and I crashed. Excessive noise from a rear diff makes me nervous.

I will give Toyota a chance but I will quickly Lemon Law the truck if they don't get it fixed soon. So far they have done and said what I expected so all is well enough. If they fix it we are good and life is great because I want to keep my truck. If they don't then they will buy it back and I will move on. I have been Taco loyal but this should not be happening with so many trucks and I have owned enough vehicles to know this is not normal and there is life beyond Toyota out there. I prefer the Tacoma but my wife is hearing impaired and can't stand the howling noise because the pitch literally hurts her ears and head.

Anyone know if the LCA noise and the rear diff howling sound the same? or are they different noises?

Nothing similar to each other in noise and the trucks now come from the Factory with the Control Arms plugged.

Early February for mine and they were plugged. Totally different noises as we know. Still waiting on the "soon to be" fix we have all been waiting on....:(
