What ever works for each individual situation is fine with me, hopefully they find an acceptable solution to their issues.

Still going to get it documented from Toyota that I have the issue so that if down the road something happens there's a paper trail for it. Not expecting a miracle but it needs to be on paper somewhere they they heard the noise and deemed it "normal".

the problem with the whole thing tho is Toyota has removed the differential for inspection by their experts whom deemed it operating normally, the next obvious step is to take to a non affliated EXPERT who can analyze it and then close the book on it if it is in fact normal.

I wonder if, behind closed doors, Toyota really thinks there is nothing wrong with the 3td member. The issue may be tough to fix. What if the pinion depth is in the sweet spot position for a howl when using a 3.90:1 r/p ratio. Perhaps that requires a gear change or a new 3rd member housing design. Perhaps an elasrermer filled mass bolted to the right place to kill a resonance. I am pretty sure I could solve it. I just don't have the time or money to throw. Toyota has both, and so does Hino Motors.

    Here is a thought.
    First the facts:
    1. The howl happens at 40-65 mph.
    2. The frequency is a 100% correlation with ring and pinion tooth mesh.
    3. The howl is most audible When acceleration ~= 0.

Conclusions: there is an oscillating acceleration deceleration gear slap at that load that is resonating throughout the system, and we here it.

Fixes: different ring and pinion geometry, different ring diameter (different ratio), mass dampener, or something we haven't thought of yet????

Who knows. I would think if Toyota is worth a lump of salt they could solve this in less than a week, have an EB, and start testing.

I never posted Toyota is screwing me specifically. Not once. They are screwing everyone with a rear diff howl. They have not even evaluated my truck yet. I opened up a case with corporate and have my first appointment in two weeks. I appreciate the time management advice but I think I will be fine. I'm not afraid to litigate over mine if needed, especially since I do this for a living and have for over 20 years. In the end I will be well compensated for my time and always have been. Best of luck to you.

The bottom line is this is my time and money. Same for everyone else on here. When it comes time to get serious I will disappear from this thread for obvious reasons and do my business. But, I am a truck enthusiast just like most others on here and don't mind talking, sharing stories, and even complaining just like anyone else. I am also 4/4 on my own personal Lemon Law cases and am sure as heck not afraid to dance with any corporate lawyer or team of them. I do it every day of my life. If I choose a private shop then I'll do that but if they pee me off I will not stop until my truck is fixed by Toyota. $40K trucks shouldn't do this. I like my truck a lot but the rear diff is a hot mess that Toyota made and needs to clean up. Peace.

This is another great reason to be on here. Anything to help or any idea to fix this cheaply on our own. Please keep us posted.

I agree with what you are saying and if I have to go forward I will have a few expert opinions. Toyota is actually a very predictable company when they are defending defective products.

My main goal is to get it fixed. That is my only intention. How this goes from there is completely up to Toyota. My number one plan is to get this fixed. I bought this truck just like former gen Toyotas because it's what I wanted. I'm a fan but there is an issue that needs to be fixed and the issue is obvious. If Toyota does not fix it then I will weigh my options and that could include just fixing it myself and then going after them for costs and fees. I could also Lemon Law it but what else would I buy if I bought what I wanted? Like almost everyone else on here I just want the darn thing fixed! Take care and best of luck to you.

best of luck hopefully you get an answer that works from them, Lemon law sounds like the best solution you would recoup 100% of your investment in the truck
