I would try a different dealer as that one does not sound very trustworthy

Surprised they told you they would replace it. Took 6 weeks for my front diff and 4 weeks for my rear diff to arrive. Hope you get better results at a different dealer.

I think the only reason they said that was because they assumed it was under the recall. It wasn't, so they abandoned ship on everything and decided to not notify me. I just love having my truck sit in a parking lot where its no use to me, for no reason. :D

Understood--both times I asked to ride with the tech. He verified the noise with me and then contacted Toyota who gave him a hard time. Wanted 3 hours of diagnostic hours before they agreed to the repair. And then the service manager had to plead the case to get the parts..

wow! Unbelievable. they added it onto my file, so if it goes bad after warranty is up they will be replacing it for free.. thats all I really wanted, oh and also no whining noise from the rear end too.

I don't hear anything. If you meant minus 35 I'll never see that. No noise around 35. I'm also not gonna look or listen for crap on this vehicle. Ignorance is bliss haha. I also got KO2s put on it the day after I bought it so idk what normal is ha

You should be fine for the first 15K. After that, its most notable in winter conditions.

Probably the needle bearing that the Tacoma also has issue with. The 4runner has so much low energy torque and throttle response that's almost instant off the line, which I love. It also feels like the engine is made for that vehicle on not something they slapped in it off the shelf like the Tacoma. Not hating Tacoma looks awesome but I had one and I preferred my 22re 4runner over it haha

Yet if you go to the 4runner forum the low rpm power is a major complaint lol. It just goes to show everyone has their opinion. Having owned three 5th gen 4runners, I am confident my Tacoma will beat my 4Runner to 60 easily, which agrees with all the official times.

Agreed! Too bad the Tacoma did not keep the 4.0 as an option. I think many would want the extra power. One of the reasons that AT does not work well with the 3.5. I have replaced that needle bearing in the 4R. Probably going to get the East Coast Gears bushing to eliminate it. Spoke with ECGS yesterday and they agree with you.

I had a 3.5 Tacoma and coming from that to the 4runner is why I feel it's faster. The Tacoma is very fast wide open but it suffers with everyday driveablity. The transmission shifted so much and that whine! Plus they try to stall when jumping out into traffic. It did it.with Toyotas field engineer as we were about to get side swiped he was already blurting out "normal characteristic of this vehicle" traded it that day. I would have lost more with the lemon law mileage hit over what I lost trading it. Plus i would lose that battle against a huge corporation. But I'm pleased with the 4runner. That manual shift lever is awesome. Feels old school and even moves as you accelerate.

The 3rd gen is vastly under powered. That's part of the driveability issues. I hope Toy fixes the engine / trans issues as I won't buy another until they do. I will hang on to my 4R for a long time if they put that dreaded 3.5 into it in 19.

You sir sure do have a lot of time on your hands! Sorry they still say its "normal" but at this point im sure there's a note on your VIN stating that.

Maybe, but why should he drive a truck that howls...I would expect a howling unit at the 20K price point, made in China. Not a Toyota...

11k, still no whine. Not lacking power either.
