Mine has the whine and most of the other issues. We shall see if this legendary reliability and resale value lives up to the hype. I have owned a lot of new trucks and so far this one is...meh...I can see how if this is someones first new vehicle that they could think it is all that. Time and resale will tell for me. So far I am not impressed.

I agree with you completely but was trying to be nice. :). I have never had a new vehicle do this. When I was a kid in the late 80s I drove an old 1 ton Chevy that was about 20 years old then that did it. About a month or two later it seized and I crashed. Luckily for me the gas pumps at the local gas station were there to stop me. LOL.

What puzzles me is that we have corporate people acting like this is something new on one day and on the other day well aware with a fix being worked on. A new vehicle of any kind should not do this in this day and age. Period. If we don’t make noise and let Toyota know this is not going to cut it then they have no reason to fix it because the fix will involve a lot of money.

They know it. Several, including me, have talked to Toyota proper and they are working on a solution.
What puzzles me though, and I understand complaing, is why do they continue to complain without doing anything. Sell it, fix it, trade it, do something. Life's too short.

I’ve heard the same from Toyota.

I’m in the “waiting to see what Toyota does” holding pattern.

I really like my truck. So we’ll see what their fix is and if it isn’t satisfactory then I guess the collective genius of TW will come up with something.

Honestly I don’t mind the complaining here. Misery loves company I suppose.

Yeah but I'm 55. I have less years ahead of me than behind me. I am going to spend life living it, not complaining about it.

I think it is more venting than anything. But, like it or not, you are completely right. Let Toyota get a few hundred Lemon Law claims and that will get their attention. I’ve said all along my plan is to hold out hope for as long as possible that a fix will come. It took me over a year to find the truck I wanted but this also makes it even more frustrating for me to have one do this. If we don’t get a fix soon I will either get a private shop to fix it or LL it and be done.

I keep telling everyone it is not that hard to LL a vehicle. Google will walk them through it if someone doesn’t want to pony up for a lawyer. Of the 4 personal vehicles I have done, I did 1 as a non-lawyer, 1 as a law student, and 2 as a lawyer. In 3 of the cases corporate trade assisted with me for a new vehicle at or above what mine cost new. If people will initiate the process their chances of a trade assist are pretty good. It is a win win for all. You get out of a bad car and the manufacturer doesn’t have to call it a Lemon. No manufacturer wants to eat a true Lemon because of all of the disclosures required and because they lose money.

OK, now listen VERY closely between 53-63 and then get back with us! Ha! LOL. Nah, I’m happy you don’t have it. Now put some MTs on before you notice anything.

Even though.my new one makes no noise, I will be dynamatting the whole back seat area when it warms up to realistic temperatures. Also, gonna change out ONE bedside decals to the black and red ones that come on the white and silver trucks. I think my gray needs a little red lol.

I’d be interested in dynamat for my backseat area. My truck is quieter than my second gen by far but I do get some road noise from that back seat area.

I hear no difference when its cold. It was 0-10F for the last two weeks and the same howl I know so well did not change.

I also hear no difference with weight in the back. I've hauled many loads of crushed stone and sand and the song remains the same.

Autocorrect strikes again. But, I bet the TNT version would fix the howling rear differential! Geez....LOL

I had my MT OR in at the dealer yesterday for its 15k service and while mine isn't terribly loud, I had them drive it and document it for TSB sake. They also ordered the parts for the MT insulation TSB (service advisor said it's by the slave cylinder). He understands that the insulation TSB won't help the differential but was more than happy to put it in my records.

Don't know what happened, but on my way home tonight I could not hear the diff howl. Normally I can reproduce it on demand. Truck has 25000 miles on it. Been howling since 500 miles. Kinda noticed it getting a little quieter a while back. Hope it stays gone for good!:fingerscrossed:

Yup. My truck is totally haunted.

    =\

Happens at quite the range of speeds, but I use compression braking a lot so maybe its more related to RPMs?

Nonetheless, would love for Toyota to fix this.

What mph range did yours normally howl at? Have you changed the diff fluid recently? Did you dynamat your cab while you were sleep walking?? Haha jk

Normally howled at 50-60 mph. Haven't done anything to it. Maybe my brain just learned to tune it out. Seriously, I hope it's gone, but not ready to count it out just yet. Supposed to be normal anyway!!
