The seat covers are fine, they don't touch the seats.

If your sr5 is a manual, then you have the 8.75" rear end and part of the TSB. Basically its 2016-17 double cabs with 8.75" rear ends.

So I've got the 60mph whine. Now we know what it is....waiting for the AC fix to be released.

Anyone else have a cyclical whirring when coasting at about 10-20 mph? Not a constant sound, but a cyclical sound. I cant tell if it is drive shaft speed or wheel speed yet. Sounds like the damn ring gear has excess run-out to me (causing a non constant mesh/backlash). Or it could be a gear resonance caused by the acceleration and deceleration of the cardan style drive shaft. Not sure. Been getting louder for about a year. At 21k miles at the moment.

    Anyone?

Yeah I had that up until I did my lift/ecgs. My truck howled and made that cyclical noise. New suspension all the way around eliminated both issues. Although I think the needle bearing may have fixed the noise you’re talking about.

I've lived with this whine/howl (I thought it sounded more like blowing across a Coke bottle) since new and waited for a "fix" for almost 16 months and 35,000 miles on my 17 Off Road. I had the TSB done today. Springs Assy RR L and R, Damper Frame Dyn, Pad Pillar #5 and Stopper Cab Moun.

Fingers are crossed, on my drive home I have a 30 mile stretch of 2-lane blacktop that with traffic all you can do is 55-60. No whine, howl or Coke bottle whistle... I don't want to jinx it, but "oh what a feeling!"

So yeah mine definitely does howl on deceleration from about 55 to 40ish. I might take it in, but I'm probably just going to buy the damper since I have dakars to put on and new leafs are pointless in my situation. It's also not real loud, I thought it stopped howling because I lost it for a few days, but then I picked it up again. It's there, but it doesn't stand out and you really got to search it out.

    Update...

Fought with the shop foreman and the service manager this afternoon--both were quite adamant about ONLY the leaf springs needing to be changed and not the cab mounts or dampers. The service director was in the dealership today and happened to wander into the conversation after the discussion started to get a bit heated... I presented my case, showed him clearly where the TSB showed 8 different parts to be replaced and he agreed with me that the shop and service techs were wrong. After profusely apologizing, he put all the parts on order.

    Hopefully they all get installed...

Will update again when I get some resolution.

What's the deal with Toyota dealers being so horrible? I've dealt with two so far & both gave me some of the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. Going forward this really is a worry I have with my truck needing this TSB & few other warranty repairs.

It's not just Toyota, it's dealerships in general... Cannot stand them! Always trying to sell you things or services you don't need all the while doing whatever it takes to do it as cheaply as possible on their end. It's happened with every car/truck (I've had quite a few over the years!) I've ever bought--Mazda, Ford, Honda, Kia, Toyota, Scion, Chevy... Extended warranties and maintenance packages are a scam. Period.

Mind you, there are good dealerships out there, but they are few and far between.

Honestly, I'm apprehensive to even let them do the TSB out of fear they're going to do a shotty job and/or create more problems. I'd gladly do the work myself if they'd give me the parts as I MUCH prefer to work on my own vehicles. They could not wrap their heads around why I've declined all my "free" maintenance. They can't even interpret a simple TSB correctly... what the hell makes them think I would want them performing critical maintenance on something that I rely on so much?!?

Either way, I'll be torque sealing every single nut and bolt that's listed in the TSB, as well as taking photos of everything before I take it in. If I find signs of piss-poor maintenance, parts that were not replaced, loose hardware or anything else that's gone awry, it's gonna get UGLY!

Took my truck in for 15k service and brought up the TSB. Parts are on order.

I noticed the whine from the rear diff a little while back, but it wasn't very loud. I only noticed it because it was one of the few times that I had my radio off. In any case, I mentioned the whine and the TSB when I took it in for its 5k service this past weekend. They're ordering the parts and are going to call me when they get in so that we can set up a day for them to do it. I'll report back with results.

Sounds like the Jetsons noise I get when accelerating hard and the A/C is on. Same?

Doesn’t sound like the howl to me.

Yes, it only occurs under acceleration. I've never though to test with/without the AC on. How hard I accelerate doesn't seem to make a difference though. I brought it to the dealer and they think it's the real-leaf springs but to me it sounds like it's coming from the drivetrain.

Might be different than what I hear. Mine seems to come from the motor.

    Definitely not the howl though.

Maybe start a thread? If you don’t see one already on it.

Talked with my shop manager today. He has only been able to personally talk to one customer that has gotten the TSB. The guy told him the howl was 90% gone and that he was satisfied with that. It was a DCSB so he got the new springs.

The shop manager also said with how many non TRD howling Tacoma’s he has dealt with that the TSB should expand to the rest of the 2017s and then into the 2018s. :fingerscrossed:

I have a 2017 TRD Sport Access Cab MT.

The dealer applied TSB 0013 18 today. New leaf springs, pillar pad, and frame damper. too much traffic on the way home to tell definitively, but i did hear something. I'll know better within a few days, but it does bear noting that I have an access cab and the dealer still applied the TSB

Basically the same config here, although my truck is an OR. My dealer also ordered the parts outlined in the TSB (TCI here in Canada). They should be in this week.

I'd be very interested to know how the fix worked for you in the end..

    Cheers,

    Frank
