Fuckers! I dumped my truck after arguing with them forever and them stating it was "normal" they should pay for my loss. Clearly it was not normal. Toyota corporate sucks. On the bright side my 18 off-road 4runner seems to work great and is so quiet.

I waited this one out, my friend! I was hoping a fix would come before I had to do something. I’m glad you like the 4Runner. Any issues with it?

Got my truck back. They replaced my rear springs and put dampers on both sides. (Although I don’t think I was technically on the TSB for the springs)

After driving it 60 miles home from the dealer, it still howls unfortunately although dampened.

I’d say at its highest pitch it is about 50% less and at all others 80%-ish less.

    It is significantly better.

I don’t think people will point it out to me anymore. It’s mostly down to about the same loudness as the tires/road and wind noise now. I’ll also admit I’m very tuned in to this noise/pitch...

Overall probably similar sound to my first diff before they replaced it and the howl got way worse.

I’ll know more after my drive to work and back. I have a few areas where I have been able to bring the howl out the loudest.

The weird thing is the howl was way loud at about 60mph with the second loudest at about 55 mph. The 60mph is almost gone (80% or so) but the 55 mph howl is probably only half dampened.

Over all I think the dampened howl feels much more manageable so far.

Glad to hear they took care of the TSB on your Truck, I guess a reduction in the noise is a good thing even though it is not eliminated.

Well, I took it for a ride this evening, i'd say it's about 90% better. I can still make it howl, but it's a much smaller speed range - 62-65 and way more quiet.

I'm less than thrilled with the care that was taken with my truck, however. Looks like they got ham-fisted with the plastics. First pic is actually a crack, not just a scratch.

Ouch... that stinks! Is the first picture the pillar next to the door? I’d take that back to the dealer as soon as you can. I’m glad your howl is better though!

I would be taking that back for damage to the interior panels...

It's an accesscab, so it's the pillar directly behind the suicide door.

I texted pics to the service manager this evening. If he doesn't reply by tomorrow noon, i'll be giving him a call.

Sorry about the mixed results. Once you’ve driven it some more please keep us posted. I’m not taking mine in until Spring break but I’m hopeful I can’t hear it. If so, maybe it’s muted enough to live with.

Man, I hope they do the right thing and replace that piece! You would think the tech would have noticed that as he/she was finishing up..

I wonder if AC will end up getting a unique TSB for the howl. The driver sits much closer to the noise. My shop manager actually mentioned that the AC’s with the howl have been the loudest. Maybe they will have to add to the TSB for them? I mean, DCLB dont get leafs, but the DCSB does. Maybe they will add something else to the AC. :notsure:

I have little faith in any tech being careful nowadays. Unfortunately. If they are then I’m happy to be pleasantly surprised.

That's bullshit!!! This is EXACTLY why I am hesitant to take my truck into the dealer or any mechanic really. People just aren't careful. They don't give a shit about your stuff, which really is unacceptable, especially from a dealer. Not only is this my first ever brand new vehicle, but it was by no means cheap. I paid extra so I could get exactly what I wanted, and I'm doing the best I can to keep it in perfect condition. I baby the shit out of this truck, because I have a '99 that I don't need to baby. If I ever have to take mine in for something I am going to have to get the service manager to agree beforehand to replace anything that I notice comes back damaged from the dumbass technicians. I can't believe that whoever worked on your truck just thought "Yeah, this looks ok I'll go ahead and give it back to the customer like this." I would be really curious to know what ends up happening with that for you. At this point I don't plan on using the "2 yrs free maintenance" that came with the truck, because the less people besides me that touch my truck, the better lol

Hmmm I wonder if the end result is longbed or shortbed dependent . How many those with longbed got rid of the howl compared with those with shortbed after the tsb or vise versa. Just a food for thought

It sounds like the longer the cab/vehicle the better the results so far. Going off of the handful of people in this thread at least ha

The Service Mgr texted me back, he said "when you get a chance stop in let us look at the rear seat damage and maybe i can replace under warranty"

I'm planning on going by after work, and having a conversation with him.

I do my own work - have for the past 35 years, and incidents like this are precisely the reason I do.
