Just curious how many 2018 owners have the whine? I had a 2016 DCLB Sport with the whine that was there from 50mph up to as fast as I dared drive. I now have a 2018 DCLB Sport that is much quieter but has the distinctive whine that is most prevelant right at 55 mph so I can avoid it most of the time but would be nice to have it gone.

Anyone have any info on the tsb being expanded to 2018 models?

They will probably release it in phases to help keep the back order down. Just get it documented and be very vocal about it. Ultimately I wish they'd redesign the damn thing. You would think they would try to stop the bleeding. At record sales they increase their chances of more unhappy customers.

Yep...I’ll be getting it to dealer soon. My dealer seems pretty good and I’ll be talking to service manager soon. Many months ago he told me a tsb was in the works (when I had a 2016), he just didn’t have a release date. He was correct, just turns out the TSB only covers 2016-17.
Will pass on anything of value i get

Just had my TSB completed on Friday. 2016 DCLB Off-road AT. Definitely a reduced noise in the same speed range. With the radio/fan on, I can barely hear it. I really have to listed for it and the road noise almost drowns it out.

They stated my rear leafs were replaced as part of the TSB, but they definitely were not. It states so on my repair order, but I know my truck was the first to have the TSB performed so I'm assuming they read the TSB more accurately once they were in the job. They stated my long bed is the "super long bed" for the TSB, which would not receive the springs, anyway.

Overall I'm pleased with the reduced noise. Hope the best for everyone else!

Same happened with the sun visor to my '18 after 3 weeks. Guess I'll have to try to get them to address it at my first service.

Folks....I'm happy to announce that the whine is gone on my 2018 DCLB Sport after purchasing the tsb parts online (no leaf springs) and installing them myself. It's no exaggeration that it took me 30 mins which included scrounging up tools, crawling under the truck, and fumbling around. Total was about $225 shipped. The crazy thing is I ordered them late Sunday night and received them today!

So....The Damper is new, the "stopper" doesn't look any different than the one I took out (pretty much a big washer), and the Pillar Pad is a 4"x8" piece of foam about that sits just about where the damper is under the cab. The pad can't possibly do anything to help?? Also, I just crammed it under the carpet where it goes....I did not dismantle all the stuff the TSB says too.

Finally....I wouldn't have done this unless I had seen Casita2010's post about him purchasing the pieces from the dealer and the dealer putting them in for free! And then his whine was gone!! Thanks for posting.

Here's the Toyota Dealership got them from: https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/ Just put in the TSB part numbers you want and order away. Hope this helps some of you with trucks that aren't covered by the tsb and are willing to give it a go on your own.

Nice!! Glad it worked!! My pad pillar was rubber strips. A Toyota tech on here said that’s what the pad pillar is. Now I’m confused on why different parts have the same part number haha I still need to get the damper ordered. Been hoping the dealer will do it for me ha

I had my truck in yesterday for the 20k service, and brought this up again (third time I've mentioned it to this dealer). This time I mentioned the TSB # specifically. They said I qualify for the TSB and parts are ordered. Also said nothing is on backorder, so parts should be in within a week or so. I'll believe that part when I see it.

This is awesome. I'm going to order the parts, the whine drives me nuts.

Doing the same once I get back this next week. $225 I don’t want to spend, but I’m tired of waiting on a TSB. I just want to drive my truck in piece and quiet ha

That’s exactly how I felt trazerr! I had a 2016 with the whine, currently had a 2018 that “had” the same whine, the tsb finally comes out and doesn’t cover 2018.....ordered/installed the parts and now drive around without trying to avoid 55mph so I wouldn’t hear it

I still hear mine and its a bit louder. I wonder if they forgot something. Then again I just got the Exhaust put on and working on a new sound system so I guess it doesn't matter any more.

Rotekk: It’s easy to look at the rear cab mount and see the new damper. Someone sent in a pic a few pages back. Mine didn’t require leaf springs. I replaced the large washer and put in the small foam pad but suspect these don’t affect the end result?....it’s the damper that is new

    Good luck

Haha yeah, a Toyota engineer admitted mine had the same whine that the TSB fixes, but not all rigs get the free fix.

At what mph range did yours howl at? Your 2018 that is.
