Well, $200 (or less) for Toyota to install their parts at least ha I installed the TSB myself. Did not fix the howl completely. Took it from 53-61 at HD radio 30+ to 58-61 HD radio 20+. Summer helps since I drive with all windows down.

Maybe we will get noise canceling headphones for the next TSB.

Haha pretty much it! Oh I’ve sent many emails and made plenty of phone calls to corporate and Jim Lentz’s office. I’ve been to the dealer for the howl 4-5 times as well. Had an engineer drive it and everything. Opened reports with Toyota and the works. Last call they told me they were not working on non TRDs and they had no plans to do so. Us non TRDs and the access cabs are screwed ha And anyone who still has the howl post TSB as well Lol

When they say they have no plan, I read that more as “please leave us alone so we don’t have to make plans” so I’d take that as a keep on emailing and calling. Emails directly to Lentz and Toyoda work best because it’s a paper trail and corporate folks are all by nature very paranoid.

Glad you don't have it! Mine is loudest at 54 MPH when feathering the throttle.

Only noise I have ever heard is a whistle coming from the driver side mirror

I mean, you made out like a bandit with not having the howl so the least we can do is give you a whistle...,,,

If you're satisfied, that's the important thing.

I just wish more people would push for complete resolution so guys like me don't continue to buy brand new trucks for $38,000 that make noises that shouldn't happen.

Don't get me wrong- I'm not blaming you at all. Glad they got it to a point you're happy with. But Toyota is getting off easy here. Can you imagine if everyone in this thread alone demanded NO DIFF NOISES? I would think that in itself would be a huge problem.

Fortunately that problem has a successful (and easy) solution.

Man, that is disappointing news. I was hoping since they are built i Japan, they may use a different supply of diffs...

Some of my gripes with the current 4runner as well. as the small radio, no 7" like the taco. Also like the no key option with the taco which you cant get on the 4runner. But these are definitely livable gripes for me.

My brother bought an 18 SR5 4runner a few months before I got my taco. We took his on a 2400 mile round trip in June and I got to drive it. The 4.0 wasnt bad and had decent power, but to me it seemed to be a little on the revvy side compared to the Taco. Almost felt like I was back in my 3rd Gen 4runner with the 3.4... Just did the same trip in my Taco with him and the throttle response flt more instant and the power felt more steady on the hills. Plus the MPG was better in the taco.

Someone in another thread stated they had the rear end howl as well, but after larger tires and a lift, it was gone.

May try the email route first with Corporate to see if it gets me anywhere and still call when I get back home.

Yeah, I have no plans to stop bothering them about the howl. I’ll email and call again at the end of this month. About every 1.5 months I reach out to Lentz’s office and corporate. Like to remind them that I am annoying haha

One thing they try to do is to divert your attention away from Lentz. I made it a point to keep copying him.

Eh, I’m not really satisfied. It shouldn’t howl at all. My shop manager agrees. It’s just easier to deal with in the summer with the windows down and radio up. Come winter I’m sure I’ll be going bonkers again lol

I’ve pushed quite a bit and quite often (see response above). More so than most I imagine as I had to pay to get the TSB even. I sent them my receipts and invoices multiple times as well haha I’m one of the bigger advocates on this forum when it comes to pushing Toyota for a howl fix.
